On our way home from a high school reunion we went through the town of Boddington (pop. 1,900) is 123 kilometres (76 mi) southeast of Perth. Apart from agriculture, bauxite and gold-mining are the major industries.
The town is named after Henry Boddington, a farmer and shepherd from the 1860s who leased land in the area in 1875. There are a number of interesting artworks in the street which I’ll try to put up over the next few posts if I can find something to write about.
Shown is the entry to the town, featuring the red-tailed black cockatoo which I’ve written about several times. The bird in the bottom right-hand corner is a female with the red bars. The male has only two wider bars. I think that’s right but I can’t verify it at the moment. And did you know that most parrots are left-footed?

I'm not sure that there is more there than anywhere else really. There is nothing in the research to say it's a particularly favoured spot of theirs. There are five subspecies throughout Australia and this one is found between Perth and Albany which is about the lower third of the state so it's not unique to the area. This subspecies is listed as 'vulnerable'.

I did not know that most parrots are left footed. I guess we have new things to learn each and every day. Have you noticed how people are getting creative each and every time?

I'm wondering how many parrots they watched before coming up with this decision.

no idea about the parrots, and I didn't even know there were black cockatoos.

You know a lot about parrots I see and even about birds. May be I could call you an ornithologist?

Did Boddington become rich from gold then?

Very interesting post. I never would have thought about a parrot's feet!
