Full of Baloney

Hi MyLot, Ah. As it turns out - there is more than one way to be full of baloney. The first way is more fun. The picture is from last week's trip to a local bar's "Balogna Day". Hm. I didn't know what I was expecting. Ok, turns out their definition of "Balogna" is something I know as "ring sasuage" and what still others call "Kielbassa" and yet another name "Thuringa". It is a style of sasuage. The cheap stuff is quite greasy, however this was better quality, quite meaty and flavored good. The price of the dinner was affordable and it came with beans, and bread. Well, that is quite good enough for an affordable meal but I was surprised that there was no sauerkraut offered. Sauerkraut is sort of like a pickled cabbage - it's cabbage that is soaked in a brine of salt and vinegar and is quite delicious. Those who love it, love it a lot. It is most excellent with this sort of meal that is salty and slightly heavy. It would have paired excellent and I wondered several times why it wasn't offered or if the place would let me bring my own. HAHA. Photo : mine of Bologna days

Those seem tasty. But I'm not fond of bologna. Now, that you mentioned pickled cabbage, I remember the "kimchi" Korean pickled lettuce that Korean restaurants usually serve with their dishes. I didn't like it at first but when eaten with ramyeon (noodles) and meat, the combination is mouth-watering. I would like to taste pickled cabbage too.

Ah yes, they're good, but if you don't like bologna then probably not. I'd heard of kimchi - just didn't know what it is. Sounds good! I would try it for sure. It makes sense that certain things are better in combinations. I hope you can find some sauerkraut and see if you like it

I am Italian and real Bologna is a total different matter. First of all Bologna is the name of a city in Italy and the cured meat takes the name from this place. This is the photo of "real" Bologna being sliced.

@FayeHazel We find it already sliced in grocery stores here. Only in Italy I can find the fresh product and ask to slice what I need.

That looks great. I'm not sure I've ever had the "real" kind.

Oh wow that is weird. As soon as I looked at the photo I thought that’s not bologna and then read what you wrote. Why don’t they call it Sausage day or Kielbasa day instead. ?

Yeah that is what I know as kilbassa or how it is definitely spelled. Yes sauerkraut would have been good with that . Glad you and Mama enjoyed it though.

They should have a mascot for Bologna Days. A wiener dog, maybe, to keep in the sausage theme.

When we were first married we were really keen to try sauerkraut but we didn't like it at all. I don't think either of us have had it since.

The only time I'll eat Sauerkraut is on a sausage. Sometimes at a baseball game.
