A little quiz

Well maybe not a quiz exactly, but a test/ guessing game. What is this thing on the dashboard of my car? Answer will be added in due course Well @allknowing lived up to her name - it's an old sock containing cat litter (clean of course ) which does a great job at absorbing moisture and preventing condensation. In the winter condensation inside the car can be quite a problem, my partner had to scrape a layer of ice off the inside of his windscreen in the mornings as well as the outside! It is a sponge cloth filled with something to prevent the car window to get foggy. Do you use baking soda inside?

Almost right, it's cat litter, but yes it absorbs moisture.

@Fleura - I could not remember what they suggested to use to absorb moisture. I used the sachets they sell to use inside the dehumidifier.

Is it a home-made heat bag thingy? When we were touring in the motor home, I would put wet socks up there to dry. (I didn't put the undies there - they went on a towel on the bed down the back!)

It's a home-made condensation preventer, I've added the answer now.

Looks like a chamois cloth. Don't see them too often these days

I still see them for sale in specialist car shops, don't know if they are actual chamoix though. But no, that isn't what it is. I've added the answer to the post.

Too bad I didn't see your post sooner. It looked like oatmeal to me. So my answer would have been wrong. Nice info about the cat litter.

It does look a bit like a rather unwieldy haggis!

@CarolDM A haggis contains oatmeal, along with the other ingredients, that's why your comment brought it to mind! I confess I like haggis.

@Fleura Oh my gosh, I looked up your words (unwieldy haggis) and that is disgusting. But I agree with you.
