A Little Bad News

Well, it’s just kind of disappointing. As you may remember from my previous posts, my dad’s surgery to replace 6 vertebrae in his neck has left him with just a whisper of a voice due to a paralyzed vocal cord. He had an injection of Restylane in that vocal cord Thursday, and was told not to speak at all until today. So he followed instructions exactly! Unfortunately, when he woke up this morning his voice was still a whisper. He called me, and he was disappointed. He assured me he wasn’t discouraged he just had gotten his hopes up. I pointed out that the injection can take a few weeks to kick in fully, and most likely his voice will come back, just gradually. Personally, I still believe his voice will indeed be back, and until then we will continue to pray. If this injection doesn’t work in a few months they’ll do another. I really do wish though that people would remember he is supposed to keep his talking to a minimum so his voice can heal. I think @OceanTiara shared my ire that people who know better keep calling him instead of texting him (he has tried to gently remind them, and at times has given the phone to his wife to answer when his voice was too strained). Certainly, there are random people who just hadn’t heard, and a few older folks whose phones can’t text, and you don’t mind. But the majority of people can definitely text, and know the situation. I’ll leave that to my dad to deal with. He said to let him handle it, and not to concern myself with it. But I love the big guy, so sometimes that is difficult to do. They certainly are happy to see him back at church though.

Yes those people need to stop it Oh dear Amber, yes well we must have faith..I am sorry this did not work quickly, but you are right, it still has a chance to work. Your Father is such a brave good man..keeping him and lifting him up in prayer.

@RebeccasFarm Yeah. I’m glad he has Diana though. She keeps a very cheerful attitude.

I am so sorry to hear that and hope the injection kicks in soon so your dad can have his voice back. I can empathize with him, sort of. For years now, I have asked people to call me because my eyes can't handle the texting. You know the selfish ones only ever send me texts.

I cannot imagine your frustration. I mean good lord, why must they make things harder on you? That’s must worse than my dad’s situation.

@AmbiePam The one that frustrates me the most is a woman I have known since we were twelve. Back then, you couldn't get us to shut up, but now, all she wants to do is text. Yet, when we are face-to-face, it's as if we were twelve again. We live 546 miles apart.

That would be frustrating if people keep calling who know he needs to rest his voice. I just wouldn’t answer the phone at all if I was him. My father in law had surgery on something in his neck and it messed up his voice for a long time 6 months or more. It did finally come back though. I hope the same for your father but with a faster recovery.

I pray he gets better soon. I am sure the church people would be praying for him too. I also hope that people will respect his condition and not stress his vocal cords. God bless

I hope the injection helps him soon. I pray everything gets back to normal for him. His wife could make an announcement on his phone for him: “Hi, due to frozen vocal cords I can’t talk right now. Please send a text, or leave a message and I’ll get back to you when my voice is better.”

He is still in my prayers and I know that others are praying for him also. The power of prayer is strong, and if not today, than another day he will speak again.

I am so sorry for the disappointment, but God still answers prayers and I have a feeling your dad has many prayers being offered up for him. I'll add mine, too. I hope people will remember he needs to save his voice for now. He sounds like a Godly man and I can sense how much you love him.

I am glad he could go to church. Yes, we need to be conscious when others have health restrictions and not put stress on them.

You are right, the injection will take a few weeks before his voice can get better. People should stop calling him. Tell to your Dad to text back and not answer the phone.
