Edible flowers. More and more as you learn about them.

When I close my eyes and think about the flowers I have eaten since my childhood, there are just a few. The first one that comes to my mind are artichokes. And although they don´t look like flowers, they are. Cauliflowers and broccoli are flores too and so are capers. But there are lots of flowers that LOOK like flores and are edible. Did you know that marigolds and pansies could be eaten? For a long time I had in my garden nasturtium just because they were beautiful. That until one of Dixie´s nephews who was a chef came and cooked for us. I did not then know where he got the flowers for the salad (they were not sold at supermarkets then) but they were delicious and SO beautiful! From then on, nasturtiums have been part of my salads. Do you use flowers in yours?

I don't use them but know many can be eaten. My grandmother loved dandelion greens. All of that plant can be used

I know leaves make a wonderful salad. And you don´t have to buy lettuce. Lettuce here has gone up in price and so do all veggies.

@wolfgirl569 It is a shame. But lately a lettuce is almost 2 dollars each.

I have used them on salads only. I could make fritters with them when I buy a real stove. Now I only have Dixie´s one burner stove. It uses a small attached butane gas cylinder. I use it as little as I can.

@LadyDuck I still have my kitchen burned. The man has not come with the appraisal. I really need a decent kitchen. You know I love to cook.

@marguicha I try not to abuse with fried food, but in summer some nasturtium and zucchini flowers fritters are a nice treat.

Nasturtiums have so many flowers that it is not noticed if you pick a few to garnish your salads.

Lovely whether you can eat them or not. I didn't know you can eat marigolds. I did know that they protect gardens from pests.

I don´t use a lot . And I would not eat just any flower. I would have to taste them to see if I like them.

We used to eat the centre white part of marigold in our childhood. We use a few edible flowers in our cooking... banana flowers make yummy dishes and so do some flowers of gourd family.
