A tree being overtaken by creepers

The photo shows Vince and Damian at Lough Lannagh. They are both wearing scarves from Nepal. Scarves are wonderfully warm we discovered when you need to go in the chilly wind. Luckily, Vince took two so I able to snaffle/steal/borrow one of his. However, I really wanted to show you the tree which has been used as a support for some sort of creeper. We saw dozens of such trees and they were noticeable because we don’t see so many of them here.

Seeing a tree with some sort of creepers is rare indeed.

That is how we lost our yielding guava tree. The garlic vine did that.

Certainly trees can be killed when taken over by a vine or creeper.

I have some creepers grown around the base of my mobile home, part of it has climbed up over my bedroom window

It's beautiful, I'm going to research this to see if I can grow it here. I just looked up 'hardenbergia' and it claims it comes in a variety of colors, I would love to have that growing in my yard EDIT: I found information on Hardenbergia comptoniana which I hope to grow here except it might not like the desert.

@rebelann Good luck with it. Wouldn't it be great if it grew for you?

Do you know the name of the creeper? Most are very prolific. Here is a native hardenbergia at our old home in Donnybrook.

Some trees along the canal have ivy growing on them, which I've spotted on my walks

Ivy really takes over. A lot of the old ruins in Ireland are half hidden by ivy.

@JudyEv More than a few houses in use have been overtaken around here!

Some of the trees near my deck are covered with ivy. If it isn’t cut off it will eventually kill these trees and it’s attaching to other trees.

Ivy can really take over, can't it?

They can indeed. They can be very strong and fast growers.

@Chellezhere A neglected garden can really become a wild mess of vegetation.

@JudyEv Yes, they are. I know a man who was too last to fo his own yardwork, so he hired someone to do it, but only paid him to mow. He was the third owner of the property. It was originally owned by a professional landscaper, and then a gardener, so once upon a time, it was the prettiest property on the block. The man I knew never had the trees and bushes manicured, and over the course of thirteen years, they became so overgrown that the vines reaches seven feet into his rooftop.

I've seen a few of these. Aren't they mutually helping each other or something like that?

Sometimes they are but not always. These aren't really parasitic plants.

You are very lucky that you did not know that about scarves, here we know all too well.

You don't see them so much in Australia. Certainly some have them but it's often not really cold enough.

@JudyEv We are having a winter-like spring, and today's high is only 8 and it is damp out, today would be a spring scarf day if I were going out.

I was surprised how much warmer I felt with a scarf. They aren't really used a lot in Australia. It's rarely cold enough.

That creeper is tree-hugging literally. My sensitive part is the neck - a cool blast will mean a sore throat. At times, I have to sit in the front seat of a vehicle with me squirming to avoid the blast from the AC.

Some car A/Cs can be very cold indeed. The one in our Toyota Prado is very good and easy to adjust. The one in the Kia Cerato isn't so good and can get very cold.

Great picture of the tree and Vince. Some vines will kill a tree. I hope that's not the case there.

There are dozens in Ireland with creepers growing up them but I only got this one photo.
