Before I hobble on out of here toward a new adventure (I took a tumble in the Noccalula Falls gorge yesterday…just a bruise and a cut and a “hey, dummy, you’re 63 now you shouldn’t be doing this!” gripe from my body
) I’ll present another tune from the great music year of 1973. Let’s go back half a century for this!
Brother Louie - Stories
And I was a couple of years ago years old before I realized the lead vocalist on this song is a man.
. It’s Ian Lloyd, who’s had a long career as a session musician and songwriter/producer. He formed Stories with a member of the band Left Banke (“Walk Away Renee”), and they had a couple of hits in the mid-70s before disbanding.
And a honky at that! There’s a lot of soul in that voice!
This was the bigger of their chart successes, a cover of the interracial love song written by and originally performed by the British soul band Hot Chocolate (of “You Sexy Thing” fame). And yeah, I thought it was a black woman singing lead.
Hope Ian Lloyd considers that a compliment!

I didn't think I knew this one; but I do! Will you please not go falling down? I hope you feel better.

Hey, you know this one!
No problem today, just a little sore and there’s a bruise on my knee.

I had my foot on a rock when I sneezed and down I went. I’m fine, nothing broken.
Glad you like the song!

Definitely had a funky vibe to it. Couldn’t believe it when I saw these guys were all white.

You know how it is when you take a tumble. A little achy or sore, but that’s it.
