The restaurant is much quieter today than it was 24 hours ago, with all the people clamoring to feed mom a burrito for Mothers Day.
It’s still noisy here as I march through May (ha, see what I did there) with a list of songs that are 50 years old this year. As you’ll notice from today’s song, not all of these are “well-known” in the US. Today’s song is a perfect example.
Rubber Bullets - 10cc
In America, 10cc is best known for two hits, “I’m Not in Love” and “The Things We Do for Love.” As this song didn’t have love in the title, we didn’t take notice of it here.
Anywho, sarcasm is a great way to get a point across, and this song proves that point. A cross between commentary about prison violence (“I love to hear those convicts squeal, it’s a shame these slugs ain’t real”) and jabs at America (“we don’t understand why you called in the National Guard when Uncle Sam is the one who belongs in the exercise yard”), this wasn’t too popular in Nixon’s America.
In England, though, it became 10cc’s first #1 song.
It’s one of my favorite 10cc songs.

I just realized what was wrong with this picture as they say. In 1973 I had teenage idols on my brain and my friends and I were goofy over David Cassidy and there really at this time was no other music. But at least your posts can help educate me on all I missed during that time,

In 1973 I was still enjoying my crush on Don Rich, Buck Owens’ guitarist.
