In the tea gardens of Bhutan the spices maintain the fertility of the soil.

If the same crop is planted every year gradually the fertility reduces down. In the tea gardens of Bhutan, they plant the cardomom and black pepper trees in between the tea plantations. The existence of the spice trees maintain the fertility of the soil. At the end revenue is earned both from the tea leaves and also the spices.

This multiple crop rotation or plantation strategy is a good one. Anything that helps soil fertility is bound to be a good one !

That's the way farms are planted in my part of the US, too. Rotate the crops every year so the soil stays fertile without needing to use too much fertilizer or pest control sprays. I think it's a good way to grow food crops.
