Beautiful young lady fired from Tennessee news station, they didn't like her curly hair and her clothing size! Seriously??

I find this beyond ridiculous. If I were an advertiser on this station, and lived there, I would withdraw my business forever. This young lady is beautiful! A pretty smile with her own style. Not everyone fits a pattern. They aren't supposed to. Aren't we supposed to celebrate differences? I cannot believe a news station would do this to a young woman just getting started on a career. There is no other way to say it, this just sucks. People are ridiculous.

I cannot think of a rational excuse for giving those reasons to fire her. As a fellow naturally curly haired woman who champions others with spirals and ringlets (including her 2 nieces), I hope those in charge are shamed by everyone who reads this article, and by those who later learn of this disgrace. This is why 18 states passed “The Crown Act”, and I hope many more states do too.

I just find this ridicuous beyond measure. A person's hair or clothing (by the way, hers was fine) are a personal choice, I understand following protocol in modesty and such, but she was not offensive in any way from what I could tell. A beautiful young woman! Why do we as a society have to judge people by the way they dress or fix their hair? There are a lot more important things to deal with than this.

@MarieCoyle I completely agree. And women especially are picked apart from the moment someone lays eyes on us.

This station should be fined and make a payment to T. Bartoe.

@MarieCoyle Exactly! Those "me too" movements and the like should be able to change those hideous laws. It is a shame to be fired because of your hair.

@marguicha Some people, through no fault of their own, have no hair at all? I wonder if that keeps them from getting a job.

Did this happen in the States, where there is, supposed to be, "democracy and liberty for all?" I am sorry for the lady who has had to suffer this misfortune just because of her hair and outfit. Shouldn't people there protest or something? This could happen next to their family members if they just let it go. You're right, Marie, "this just sucks."

@MarieCoyle It's an unbelievable story in this day and age. The TV sponsors should look into it and withdraw their sponsorship.

@MarieCoyle I laughed, sorry. This is showing a bad example to the youth. I agree that as long as they are pleasant and clean and tidy, well-groomed, these should be enough.

Knoxville, TN. Yes, I would protest if I were there. I have 4 children. Two have curly hair, like me, and two do not. They are all different and all smart and all beautiful in my eyes. These kids work their butts off to get an education to get a decent job, and they get fired for THIS???? Yes, I hope the TV station suffers for this. They deserve to.

I have read fired for her curly hair and because she is size 12. I think this is discrimination, I cannot believe this can happen.

@MarieCoyle - This is a case of discrimination. I remember a flight attendant who sued an airline when they decided not to let her fly again because she was heavily overweight. They were obliged to let her fly again. In that case I was with the company. In case of accident that short fat woman would have been of no help for the passengers.

I personally don't care for the hair; but it's no reason to let her go. As far as her size goes, we have pleasantly plump ladies on our news channel. The trend has been to have plus size women in the media.

Even more weird is that in the article it says she was bullied, growing up, because of her curly hair. A lot of people would kill to have beautiful hair like that! What is wrong with people?

She was fired for having curly hair?? That is beyond ridiculous. I can't believe they even sent her to a hairdresser in the first place! Surely she can take them to an employment tribunal for unfair dismissal?

The station management in Knoxville blew the call. The young lady did not harm anyone working at the station.
