Most us have heard of this saying" Neither a borrower, nor a lender be. For loan oft loses both itself and friend."
I do not remember when it was the last time we borrowed money or lent anyone money .It must have been when we were constructing our house years ago from a bank which was promptly returned within the due date.
It is mostly about lending or borrowing from friends or family members.
Have you been a victim ?

We have never borrowed from friends and family. Yes, taken loans from bank and it was paid on time. We stay away from lending too. But few years back, my husband lend some money to his cousin and it never returned. They act totally strangers to us now
. My husband says that let's take it as a donation.

Yes, I have. I ever lent my friend money a quite large amount of money.
When he asked to borrow my money in the morning, he promised to return it in the evening, so I gave him. But then, it's been more than a year since the day he lent my money, but he doesn't return it yet.

Do you have any hopes of getting it back and how is your relationship with your friend now?

@allknowing Yes, I have. I'll ask him later, I don't know when but I'll definitely ask my money back. He is my co worker so we just act like usual. But I know he is kind of shy to me because of not returning my money back yet.

A certain friend out of the blues last month did that and I wondered how? I told the person to wait till the next day for their money to be available, I was blocked

In our case there may have been small amounts here and there which I do not think we expected will be returned something that could be treated as charity

@allknowing - I was against giving him money because he was someone who used to spend to go out in elegant places with his girlfriend. I am sure he asked to all his friends and never paid back.

Would you expect that borrower to return your money to you?

@allknowing That's why I have no hesitation lending her some money for emergency use.

The one and only time I borrowed money was to go to college. The only family member who ever borrowed money from me was my sister, years ago, and after nine months she had earned enough to pay me back. But I knew she’d pay may back because she has too much pride not to.

Good to have a determination or pride to return what is borrowed.

You prefer where there is no interest involved.

The only people I will loan money to is my children. No money to friends that will end your friendship when you do not get the money back.
If a friend really needs food I will take them shopping and buy it for them. No need to pay me back.

@allknowing Some have paid back others haven't. But by doing it that way I don't have any hard feelings towards the ones that didn't

We did borrow when we were constructing our new home but repaid it after selling the existing home.
You are on the right track
