Coca-cola for breakfast

Do you think it's normal or what? It's common here in Colombia that people drink coca-cola or local coke for breakfast. They drink coca-cola along with deep fried empanadas or arepa. Even in restaurant or cafe, they offer coca-cola for breakfast. I found it weird. I don't use to have coca-cola in the morning. But, really. Coca-cola in Latin American countries is big.

Coffee, yes. Colombia is well-known by its coffee. They don't drink tea here. Here's the thing, coffee is usually for adult people. But coca-cola is for everybody from toddlers to adults.

I rarely drink soda as it is high in sugar and chemicals . . . so how shocking to me to hear about coke being a breakfast drink !

@Shasha_ Oh no, that's horrible that little ones are getting into the soda habit so young . Besides obesity and health issues, how about their teeth !

I'm shocked, too. Here, people old and young (even toddlers) drink coca-cola or other kinds of soft drinks almost in every meals.

I prefer tea or coffee for breakfast. I do have coke or Pepsi once in a while, but never for breakfast.

Same here. I never have coke for breakfast. And I don't have any interest to try it. Would you like to try to have coke for breakfast?

It is also weird for me. Even if I like drinking Coco Cola, but I don't drink it for breakfast. It seems it is not a healthy way to drink it so early?

Neither early or later is good idea to have coca-cola for breakfast. I think having it at anytime is not healthy.

Better to have tea or coffee with it. Coke is full of chemicals

@Shasha_ They are good chemicals and makes you even more focussed towards your work. Don't like tea or coffee?

I agree with you. Anyway, aren't coffee and tea also full of chemical, like caffeine?

It's a cultural difference where consuming Coca-Cola for breakfast is common in Colombia and other Latin American countries. While it may seem strange to you, it's a normal part of their morning routine and reflects the popularity of Coca-Cola in the region.

I'm 100% in agreement with you. I find it weird to see their culture, and they may find it weird to see other people not having coca-cola for breakfast.

but do the people of Columbia only drink the coke? What about solid food? In Calcutta people have poha or upma for breakfast

Yes, they have solid food. But, instead of having tea, coffee or milk, many people here have coca-cola. Poha and umpa sound like interesting food to try

In my country it is usually a hot beverage - whether coffee, cocoa, milo, tea or chocolate.

That's a part of culture in Colombia. Their food and drink are really surprising me. I will post more about Colombian culture. I'm glad you find it fascinating.

Coca-cola isn't good for you and it's loaded down with sugar. Why in the world would any parent think it was OK to give it to a child for breakfast? I find that very strange, but hey, I know different places do things differently.

@Shasha_ Not to mention it's hard on the teeth. It just seems strange to drink it for breakfast, I've never heard of that before.

I agree with you. Obesity and diabetes have been big problems in this country. My guess is that the parents have lack of knowledge about health.

I suppose that's a very sweet start to a day, in my country it normal just to have usual breakfast like cereal, or eggs and toast. But my country is quite diverse and different cultures tend to do things differently here. I guess a person culture has an influence on what you eat and when you eat. So I guess if it's normal to drink cola there and with be unusual to others
