“The universe will provide”

Do you believe in the idea that if you wish for something, you just ask the universe for it and “The universe will provide”? Personally I think this is a load of tosh. If it was true, then no-one anywhere would ever be in need of anything, would they? But it is funny how many times I am looking for something specific and the very thing comes along. I have a shopping trolley which I bought when Big One was a tot. I always thought shopping trolleys were for old people, but when I had a small child plus all my supplies for work plus her supplies for a day at nursery plus family shopping, and had to travel on two buses, it seemed like a good idea. I bought a basic one and she and I jazzed it up with some paint and funky fabric so I didn’t feel quite so ‘old-lady-ish’. Since then we’ve used it quite a few times for family days out, when we need to carry a picnic lunch, spare jumpers/coats/sunhats and all the other stuff you get lumbered with when someone says ‘Mum, can you look after this?’ All that gets surprisingly hard on the shoulders when you have to lug it about all day. Then we were due to attend a folk festival where Big One would be performing, and she had to go from place to place carrying several spare pairs of shoes (different soles for different types of dance, all quite heavy), musical instruments, lunch, water etc. I said she could take the trolley and her face lit up! But then of course I wouldn’t have one. I decided I would look out for another and when I popped into a very small town I decided I would have a look in the one and only charity shop just in case they had anything of interest. And guess what? They had a shopping trolley, good as new, for £8. Just what I wanted/needed, and ripe for decorating! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2023.

So, it's rather like a small type of suitcase, but on wheels? When you said trolley, all I could think of was a shopping cart, which is often called a trolley. Glad you posted the picture, so me, the dum-dum, understood better. Good that you got what you needed at such a great price. Often the thrift stores with the used items have things that are just fine, for a lot less than new.

@MarieCoyle I used to call them "bundle buggies" but now just call them "buggies". I have three of various sizes, one such as Fleur describes, the other two are wire deals, the biggest of which has a plastic liner.

It's softer than a suitcase, basically a big bag with a drawstring neck and then a flap over it, and some sort of stiff base. And yes we call the supermarket vehicles shopping trolleys as well

@Fleura Different parts of the US call shopping carts different things--here in the Midwest, they are generally referred to as a shopping cart. In the south, they are often called a buggy, and I've heard trolley before here and there. Also, a few times, wagon, which I never did understand because it's not a wagon. I don't need one of these, the only similar thing I have is of course a few suitcases that roll, for travel.

You have good luck, I never have that luck. Good for you though it happened and no reason to feel sorry for it.

I'm sorry it doesn't happen for you. I don't know whether I believe that some people are naturally lucky but if that's true then I do seem to be one of those people. Or maybe it's just that I'm naturally optimistic and just expect the best outcomes?

@Fleura I think it picks and chooses and some say that is god but I say that is nature spreading the surveil of what she needs. How you look at always but always bigger than us.

I like to think God provides like that more than the universe. It seems like if you have generous heart, it works out that your kindness is paid back. I realize not everyone believes in God though. That’s just been my own experience. I’m glad to see your kindness was repaid as well, because you seem like such a good person.

@Fleura Okay. I was debating whether to mention it here, but I think it might make for a good post too.

I don't believe in 'gifts from the universe' and I don't really believe in any deities sending things you want either (especially not small things like this!) but this sort of thing happens to me very often, I seem to be a naturally lucky person, if there is such a thing, although that does seem very unfair.

The only "wish" the universe has granted me was the one where I wished I didn't have to work... which resulted a couple times in being fired, then having health issues...

Yes, Sometimes Universe actually provides, and this is what people call luck. But I always wonder why not all the time...

Some times everything falls in place but not every time. It has happened to me many times in my life.

Same as you, I do not believe to this at all. We would all have everything we wish and we need should that be true. I always went shopping using a trolley in Monte Carlo, our trolleys there had 6 wheels (3 every side) to climb stairs. I had a 110 stairs long to climb with my trolley after I did my shopping. No smart woman would have decided not to use a trolley there, young, less young, wealthy and very rich. We all had one. I bought one new during Covid. Our doctor suggested to my husband not to go out grocery shopping, I went with my trolley, down the very steep road and back up with my trolley full. A good exercise.

Oh yes I have seen those with three wheels, do they really work on stairs?

@Fleura Those work very well on stairs, I never waited for the elevator even when I arrived at home, I do not like elevators at all.

Cool! There's nothing wrong with using a trolley. Makes it so much better when you have a ton of stuff to carry around. I'm glad you found one at a good price. Have a great weekend.

How interesting. We call them shopping carts here. Glad you found a good bargain on one.
