We are having minus 0° C where I live. And there are shelters and there are homeless. Homeless people don´t like to go to shelters. Besides giving them food and a bed, they clean them to some extent and they will not accept that they drink or have drugs around there. But it will be cold. So there are special free phone numbers so that they can go to the shelter if they want to. But it is not mandatory.

Yes the same here, if the weather bites cold, they will open more up for them. Some do die in the cold too as they wont go in the shelters for various reasons.

Exactly. Some homeless will not accept a shelter. I hope that some of the homeless that are immigrants with children do go there.

There are a lot of people on the streets who are homeless in Latvia. They sleep in underground street tunnels and on benches in train and bus stations where they get thrown out of. There are winters when the temps get in the minuses like -30 centigrade and stay that way for at least two weeks, During those times the capital Riga lets the homeless sleep in heated churches, basements, and even places in hospitals. The police do raids every night and pick them up and transport them to these places so they don't freeze,

We take care more of our fomeless here and we would even more if they let us. But our winters are mild. When we talk of a terrible cold wave, we are talking about 2 or 3 hours of - 2 centigrade at dawn at the most.

They should go to the shelter, when the temperature is so cold many die.

Being homeless in the winter is a nightmare. I could never do it.

At least they are being offered shelter. Sometimes, it seems hard to help some people.
