A new day every morning

Our superintendent let us know that the van I was going to drive was being used for driver's education. There was a bus going out for one student and that bus, driven by Bus Driver Earl, will pick up the kiddos that needed me to get them. It was a whirlwind this morning, and now I am tired. There was really nothing very difficult to do. But man!! everyone had the wiggles. We did two sessions. First session was our regular specialized students plus some younger kids who are needing extra practice. Second session was older kids who normally are in resource room during the school year. So it was a very wide age span. One student just coming up from pre school, to four students who will move on to middle school. We will have fun, and learn stuff, I hope.

You are dealing with many different issues and various age levels of children. Your mind needed to take a U turn, throughout the day!

The time flies really quickly. We just review and practice as much as we can. We do have recess as well. We are in an area that still believe children learn better when they can get out and play a little.

@GardenGerty When children are cooped up and sitting in a chair for hours, this is against their inborn nature to be active!

Oh you ate driving the bus now not just riding on it and taking care of the kids? We no longer have a drivers Ed teacher here. Too many students got impregnated by him but it was always hushed up. Angers me!

No, I would have driven a van. Now the other para rides to get those two students. I start my day with two kindergarteners.

Life. I'm glad that though the age gaps of students are quite big you were able to pull it through the day

First session there are five of us adults working, because it is the biggest age range. Second group we only have three staff, but there are not really many behaviors that require one on one staffing.

You are very right there. I learned from the older group that all monsters drool. Very needed information.

That much variation will keep your mind going even more than it already does!

It does happen. I think some of them improve every day. Many of them do not want to be there, but it is for their good. We try to have fun.

Yes, for many of them it is a different environment than they usually have and they will settle in pretty soon.

I'm sure it's difficult with such an age difference.

It is like chasing squirrels. In general these kids are less mature for their age which means more wiggles, more distractions, etc.
