What the heck am I doing up this early? Oh, they’re upgrading my security system. Yeah. While I’m stumbling bleary-eyed through this process I’ll give you a song that’s now 40 years old. To the massive cheers of NJ Chic (who’s saying FINALLY ONE I KNOW!!!!), here’s today’s song.
New Year’s Day - U2
It’s hard for us now to think about U2 as a relatively unknown band. But yes, there was a time before The Joshua Tree where they weren’t everything-was-shipped-quintuple-platinum. In fact, this (the lead single from their second album) was their first charted single. It didn’t even make the top 50.
I know that U2 has become a rather polarizing band, primarily because of Bono (love him or absolutely loathe him, no middle ground). But there was a time. And this is part of that time.

Oh, well, we’ll try again tomorrow! At least you’ll smile with tomorrow’s song.

I'm not familiar with U2, even though this music is very catchy! Bono? One day I liked him, the next week he slammed into a tree. That shocked me! Cher? She will never change her exalted viewpoint of "CHER."

@kobesbuddy — yeah, this is an Irish guy named Bono (real name: Paul Hewson), not Sonny Bono.

It was more popular once the live EP Under a Blood Red Sky came out, because this song is where that line came from.

This song is one "I will follow." I don't like all of their music, but there are a few whose lyrics and energy hit me like a Beautiful Day.

I agree with you: I don't like a lot of their stuff (mainly because The Edge never minded to change chords
), but songs like "Running to Stand Still" are simply gorgeous.

I was imitating Bono's singing the other day with this song
. For some reason this song gives me a severe nostalgic feeling of the time. I listened to several radio stations at the time - different genres - so maybe that's why I know many of your '83 picks!

That, or you weren’t stuck in a Lionel Richie music loop.

@much2say — I heard a comedian do, “I’m stuck on you, ‘cause while we were making love I spilled the crazy glue.”
