The One About the Long Train

United States

My daughter and I did Uber Eats for quite a while today. She's the one who actually does the whole uber thing in her spare time, and I just went along with her and got the food from the restaurants, and she took it to the homes. Suddenly, the crossing arms came down at the train track. I rarely see trains around my area and when I do they are little tourist trains with two or three cars, so I didn't think much of it I was amazed to see how many cars the engine was pulling behind it--there must have been (maybe) over a hundred. I thought it would never end--I can't even believe how massively strong train engines are. This may be the norm for you who live where long trains occur frequently, but I haven't see a train like that since I was a kid. Back then, we would wave at the guy in the caboose, and it was a happy day when he waved back. I took several pictures, but it was too dark and they turned out as black blobs, so here is an exact (toy) facimile of the train I saw.

When I was a kid, long trains frequently went down the tracks in the middle of our city and the cars would wait seemingly forever for the train to finish before we could cross the tracks. Now, the trains go under the streets here so we rarely ever see them anymore.

The only trains I've ever heard of before that go underground are the subways from New York and other large cities. I didn't know regular trains went underground also. That's cool.

@misunderstood_zombie The trains are still on the same tracks but bridges have been built over them so traffic isn't stopped anymore.

@DaddyEvil That's a great idea, because it's crazy to wait for sooooo long.

We do not have very long trains here, most local trains are only a dozen cars, the long distance around 50.

@misunderstood_zombie - I have seen longer trains only to transport goods, no passengers.

That would be a much more normal amount of cars to me, but I guess they add as many as they can here to get the job done faster, maybe.

I kind of miss the toy ones, but not so much the real ones. We have a train crossing near here I always seem to get stuck behind, waiting to pass.

The last functioning train in our city was I think back in the 70s. But now, no trains can be seen here anymore.

There are many trains close by here but I don't think 100 would be the average cars, that is a long train. Legos took me back a few years to when my son was here.
