Silly girls....

In one of Rhonda's discussions, she reminded me of how silly me and my cousin were. She was my best friend. We grew up together, well, until they decided to move to another island when I was in high school. We wanted to fly like superman and supergirl. One time we watched Mary Poppins and saw that we need not be superheroes to fly. We only needed to have happy thoughts and laugh till we float. And so we tried. We laughed and laughed nonstop. We felt our bodies getting lighter and we felt like we were about to float. But we didn't. We thought we weren't laughing enough and so we tried again. And again. And again. Then we gave up and told ourselves we didn't have enough happy thoughts.

That sounds like a wonderful memory. Mary Poppins made me dream of things like that, because to me, it really was a magical movie.

@AmbiePam And I bet you also sang along to the songs while watching. I couldn't count how many times I've seen that movie. Even as an adult, I would still watch it once in awhile.

Oh how funny - I love that! You both had such a will to float . . . I wish it happened ! There was a time when my daughter absolutely loved Mary Poppins - that gives me happy thoughts .

@much2say I wish your daughter did. I was lucky I had a cousin to enjoy it with. My sisters were way older than me and hated playing with me or even spending time with me. They had their own set of friends and I was excluded.

We had a lot of silly thoughts when we were kids plus we were influenced by the movies we watched. The good thing though was that there was no cable tv and we only watched foreign movies thru betamax which was carefully chosen by my father.

@averygirl72 Right, that was in the 80s and then Betamax turned into VHS in the late 80s. And then CDs and Laserdiscs in the 90s. Though laserdiscs didn't become a hit because it was way too expensive. We enjoyed it though.

I've laughed before, until my stomach hurts! Probably from not breathing normal:( I'd safety-pin a towel on my back and pretend to be superman(as a child)

We did that as well. Me and my brothers. With a towel on our back. But Superman didn't really taught us how to fly. Mary Poppins showed us though.

That is so funny you two tried so hard that way. What a cute story. Did you ever get to see her again after they moved?

Oh yes. We didn't communicate for years and for some reason when I gave birth to my son I got a text message from her. She was already a nun then. So I made her my son's godmother.
