Ruined her barbecue

I haven’t had a daughter emergency in a long time. Fortunately, this time I had a car that I could use. She was about 35 miles south of our house for a barbecue and fell about 15 minutes after arriving. She was taken to the hospital with either a broken foot or a broken ankle (so far, we know she tore all the ligaments and tendons). She couldn’t even hobble to the car to be driven by a friend to the hospital. So I went down and met them at the hospital. Her friend drove her car to the hospital, but because he's not sure about driving stick all the way back, we traded cars. He drove the car I was using back up to MY friend's house to drop it off and I drove him and another friend home before driving back to the hospital to get her. We had so much fun and it wasn’t even the Fourth of July yet. She goes to the orthopedist tomorrow for a full evaluation of her foot. We got her a knee scooter to get around on until she's allowed to put weight on the foot.

I have a stupid step in my house just beyond the entry that I point out when people come over. Too many people have fallen, and I have to wonder who the heck would have designed a house that way. Anyway, I hope your daughter has a good recovery. Falls are not fun.

@akalinus It's an entire room that's lower than the other room. I'll be posting an update as she saw the ortho today and learned more about her injury.

Maybe you can get someone to fix the step or reorient it or something so it is safe to use.

She's looking forward to seeing the ortho and finding out just how bad it is or isn't.

@jerzgirl Every time someone has such a problem, it means at least a boot for some time.

So do we. She's really worried about her job, although much of it can be done from home. Still, some bosses require a face to look at. If she gets the OK, the knee scooter will allow her to be at work when the time comes.

@DaddyEvil She's feeling better about things, even though it turned to be as bad as suspected. Answers do make a difference. She will have to work from home and she has the letter from the doctor explaining why she can't go in person. She has to keep her foot elevated above the level of her heart. Can't do that at work.

@jerzgirl Jobs that changed to work-from-home were discovered to eliminate middle management for a lot of businesses. I hope she doesn't have any problems working from home. Good luck to her, whichever way it turns out.

Poor lady! I broke my ankle once, but I didn’t tear tendons! That must be extra painful. I’m glad you were able to help her out.

So am I. If my friend hadn't just bought a car and let me hold on to the old one for a few days, we'd have been SOL. He and his brother weren't willing to go down to the hospital, so I took his car.

Oh my goodness. It sounds like she's got a lot of recovery time ahead of her. I hope it all heals quickly.

That's what we're both thinking. Tendons and ligaments don't usually reconnect without surgery, so we'll see if the xray tech was right about what she saw.

Aw, I hope she feels better quickly. I broke an ankle way back in 2001 and it is not fun. It was broken in four places and you can call me metal foot.

@jerzgirl At least, it is healing. It is too bad you did not get proper treatment at the time it happened.
