I am a fan of a good quiz. I went to one yesterday. It was a one-off to support attempts to save an important local venue.
I was hoping to have a team of four but only managed three. There was me, my husband (D), and my big sister (Dory).
We didn't know what to expect in terms of the types of questions, how many teams would be there, whether it would start on time or whether it would be a success. When we've been to pub quizzes, they never start on time, there are always people asking for questions to be repeated or wanting to take breaks at different times or arguing with the host about an answer. Those things don't make for an enjoyable quiz.
Apart from a few issues with the room being small and echoey, and hosts not knowing how to work a microphone, this quiz went quite well.
There were 10 teams. Ours was the smallest team with only three members, all the other teams had 4, 5, or 6 members.
They started almost on time. There was one team who turned up a few minutes late so we waited for them to arrive. There were 10 rounds, I think. We did OK on most of them. There were a few rounds where we got 8/10, some we got 4 or 5. Our worst round was sport - we scored more than expected. We got 2/10. One of those was a guess, and the other was because it was also music-related and we knew the song!
There were a handful of questions in other rounds that we would have got had we ignored my husband and gone with the answers I gave
and one where we crossed out the right answer and left the wrong one!
I think our total score was 50/92 (there were 8 rounds with 10 questions plus a picture round with 12 pictures - we got 9/12 on that one).
We had walked to the quiz but decided to get a taxi back because it was raining and we were tired! It had taken longer to walk there than it should have done (about an hour when it normally takes 40 to 45 minutes) but we did stop off on the way. We stopped to get drinks and to pick up a prize for the raffle. At the quiz, they had a break halfway when they played 'Play Your Cards Right', and then a raffle was drawn once the quiz had finished. We donated some prizes but we didn't win anything.
I do wish we had more regular things like this. Perhaps I will suggest it once we, hopefully, get our important local venue back.
The two sports questions we got right were as follows:
How was footballer Edson Arantes do Nascimento better known?
Which baseball player is mentioned in Simon and Garfunkel's song 'Mrs Robinson'?
Do you know those answers? Do you like a quiz? Perhaps I'll create one for here some time.

I know that Joe DiMaggio is mentioned in the song. I don't know who the footballer is. I know American football. Glad you enjoyed yourself. Have a good day.
