Did You Know This About Babies?

There are about 3.6 million babies born each year in the United States. I thought I knew a lot about babies just thinking common sense wise. I was surprised to find I didn't know a lot. Here are some facts I learned: * Thanks to the position of their larynx a newborn can both breathe normally and drink at the same time. * When something is put in a baby's hand what do they do? Grab it. The reflex which is called the Palmar grasp goes away at about six months. The human baby shares this trait with most other primates. * This one I found odd: Newborn babies see in black and white. It isn't until they are about two months old that they see their first color- red. * Babies can taste bitter, sweet, and sour at birth. They can't taste salty until about five months. * Babies start crying at about two or three weeks old. Tears don't show up until they are about a month old.

I've always wondered how "they" know what some non-verbal one else can see. And if you put something in my hand, I'm liable to grasp it reflexively, too, and I'm a lot older than 6 months.

I can break down all of those I know and someone with them to make it clear for you in understanding the world of babies and how things see or feel things. Babies don't know they are not you till they are being to experience separation anxiety this is when they being to understand they are not the primary caretaker. This is usually around 1 year old. You can throw a newborn into a pool of water, and it will bring to swim naturally The first sound that babies understand is the sound of the womb so sharing and genital sway is soothing to a newborn reminding them of their first home. While nursing your baby, if either of you is sick, your body will naturally throw antibodies to whoever is sick. Mom or baby. Babies are not born with kneecaps, they also have free-floating eyes this is why they only see in black in white the nerves had grown, and they develop after birth.

@celticeagle That same thing about babies giving antibiotics also happens when they are still in the womb but there is also this condition called mirror so if the baby is sick sometimes the mom's body will mirror it but also if the mom is actually sick the body can start going into preterm labor trying to protect them mom by getting rid of the baby. Depending on how far along the mom is, this can also protect the baby to a certain degree.

@celticeagle Why in the world would you assume such a thing?

@1creekgirl .........I am not assuming anything. I have read that in some situations that is the case. And, some babies who are fussy and cry early on have a hereditary sensitivity to being fussy and crying a lot. Just what I have read.

We were told that newborn babies cannot see at all. But when I was pregnant I read a lot of books and I learned a lot about babies. That's why when my son was born, I filled his nursery with black and white objects including his mobile. And I also added red. I learned that by doing so, you are helping your baby's brain development.
