We Saw a Train Across the Road

Last evening it was pretty dark outside. When Jay and I approached a railroad crossing, there was a train across that road. Visibility wasn't good and there are no lights at that crossing! I'm glad Jay was alert, it was hard to see that train in front of us. No, there hasn't been an accident at that crossing or we would have heard about it. But, why wait until someone gets killed, before adding flashing lights on that street! Photo: Mine it was taken by Chad, my son

This train passes through once every evening. It's called the D&M Railroad. This simply means it travels from Detroit to Mackinac, every day. I love watching trains!

It's frightening, knowing how blind that crossing is. The train cars were dark, barely visible.

That is a good question. Are you going to pursue it?

Some day, possibly. Once we become permanent residents in Tawas City. Then, my voice will count.

If someone isn't paying attention, they could easily run into the side of that train!

It could be really hard to see a train at night. Most of our crossings have flashing lights but not all do.

I don't like train crossings without lights or bars. I'm glad you are safe and sound.

That seems odd that the city or county wouldn’t be a little more cautious than that. Saving one life is worth the effort.

At the one crossing, a bar comes down to block traffic flow. That's for safety purpose, of course.
