A Melting Pot

When I was growing up in the 50s I heard this term a lot. It was America and we were proud of our diversity. We still are a melting pot, nothing has changed. We are Irish, Jewish, Mexican, French Canadian, African, Ukrainian, Native American, and Norwegian just to name a few. We have all different cultures living together in neighborhoods across the nation. That is one of the interesting things about our country, one of the things that make us unique. And there used to be respect, consideration, and realism. I don't think I've heard that term for decades. It's as if we no longer are proud of who we are. With The Putz putting his racist two cents worth into the mix we really have to walk a tightrope and be so careful nowadays. Mexicans crossing the border aren't all rapists and drug sellers. He is such a nasty man. And there is DeSantis with his LGBTQ uprising. But it doesn't change the facts. We are a melting pot. Now we need to stand up and be proud of that fact, not sneak around and hide who we really are amongst of ethnic slurs and sexist behaviors. Be strong, be brave, be who you are.

I never knew what that term meant. Interesting. We definitely have a lot of diversity in this country which I think is wonderful.

I always understood that term meant that everyone there wanted to forget their roots and just be 'American', no hyphens wanted.

@BarBaraPrz This is what expat try to do most of the time, melt into the new culture to be well accepted by the community.

The term exactly means "different elements "melting together" with a common culture".

And here I thought you liked Biden. So sad he's joined the racist elite too. I think the last good president was Carter. Reagon too. Yes, we're a melting pot. It's a term I grew up with too.

I was always told that the United States is a melting pot and Canada is a mosaic. Apparently there's a difference. Many unsettling things happening here as well. I hope we can turn things around.

Respect and tolerance are just about words of the past in our country. We need to get back to old traditions. Enjoy your weekend.
