Summer beach movies are as fun to watch as a beautiful ocean sunset. It can make you escape and think that summer will never end. With that in mind here are my final favorite film selections. Like a vivid memory these films give me that never ending summer feeling. Well, at least till next summer.
And of course, It doesn't hurt that some of these films are classic and timeless too.
See if you agree about the worthiness of these flicks. Were any of these a favorite of yours too?
3. POINT BREAK
-Keanu Reeves is an undercover FBI agent posing as a surfer dude to infiltrate a group of bank robbing surfers. Patrick Swayze is excellent in the role of the charismatic leader of the surfing bandits. Gary Busey gives an intense performance as Reeves partner. Reeves (Agent Johnny Utah) gains acceptance into the surfers/bank robbers' gang and winds up forming a close friendship with Boydi (the Swayze character). This raises concern whether he will eventually arrest him when the time is right. Add in the suspenseful action scenes and daring escape sequences of the surfer robbers and you got one heck of a film.
***What was your favorite Patrick Swayze role. I enjoyed his performance as the bouncer in "Roadhouse."
2. THE ENDLESS SUMMER
-A terrific film which follows two real-life California surfers — Mike Hynson and Robert August — as they crisscross the globe chasing the perfect wave. Even if you don't know anything about surfing the photography of the surfers catching and riding huge waves is awesome. The cool surfer music mixed in with the commentary adds to the vibe and you even learn a few surfing terms from the film. The scenery on some of their stops which include Africa, Tahiti, and Australia, are so calming you feel like your sitting on the beach watching them "hang ten."
***Did you ever try surfing? My brother was a really good surfer and I tried but was not very successful.
1. JAWS
-I saw this one on spring break in Florida and the scene where the shark appeared to attack the girl skinny dipping was chilling. I nearly jumped out my seat! This film centers around the killer shark who decides to make the tourist destination of Amity Island its personal feeding grounds. After several sightings and deaths among the populace, Sheriff Brody (Roy Scheider) calls in some shark experts Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and Quint (Robert Shaw) to hunt the Great White down.
Seeing that bloodthirsty shark terrorize the citizens of Amity Island, I was definitely on guard afterwards when I went swimming that summer.
***Did you give sharks and swimming any second thoughts when this movie came out?
-That wraps up my little summer film festival. Hope you enjoyed the picks!

I think of Jaws more as a “stay the heck away from the beach” movie!
My parents went to see that while I went to see Tommy. I think I enjoyed myself more (teenage girl watching Roger Daltrey run around shirtless for half the movie
)…and I wasn’t afraid of the beach afterward!
Thanks for sharing the list!!!

Aha, a different type of fishing expedition. Yes, I can see how that would be a better movie choice for a teenage girl.
Glad you enjoyed the list. Enjoyed doing it!

Boy he did have some great roles in movies. I also enjoyed the movie "Ghost."
Fun fact:
Patrick Swayze was an accomplished skydiver and took part in the big skydiving scene. He made fifty-five jumps in total.

Hard to choose a favorite right? Fun fact:
Gary Busey from the film "Point Break" was nominated for an Oscar way back in 1979 for his role as Buddy Holly in "The Buddy Holly Story."

I remember when Jaws came out in 1975, the hype for the movie in Panama was huge with stores and theaters selling merchandise for the film which was "Tiburon which means "Shark: in Spanish. The movie when I saw it on the Syfy channel did live up to the hype.

@dgobucks226 I am in agreement with you that seeing a movie in a theater is the best experience.

Hmm, that's too bad. I enjoyed the movie theatre experience. That's the best way to view a movie like that one.
Here is a movie clip where they come across the shark. Scary! You're gonna need a bigger boat

Jaws is the only movie I know really well. I would never go swimming now where sharks are known to congregate. I never tried surfing. My favorite Patrick Swayze role was in Dirty Dancing. Enjoy your day.

@dgobucks226 No, they can chomp off a leg or an arm without any effort. I prefer to stay out of the water! Have a good Sunday.

Patrick Swayze had real presence on the screen! I also enjoyed his performance in "Ghost."
FYI- Real great white sharks do not behave in the manner depicted in this film. In fact, unprovoked shark attacks are very rare, with only a handful of them being fatal and two out of three people survive a great white shark attack. But hey, it's Hollywood right!
Still, I would not want to be the unlucky person who was attacked.

My dad will stop on the movie Road House every time he comes across it on television.
I liked Patrick Swayze in his brief appearance in the movie, Tall Tale It was a charming bit of a movie, and I appreciated his appearance in it. My favorite movie of his though, was Dirty Dancing.
Jaws was a movie I saw way too young, but what I like about it is that the shark looks far more real than modern day CGI.

I'm not familiar with the first two, but I remember the summer Jaws hit the theaters. I lived in Wilmington, NC just 5 miles from Wrightsville Beach. After the movie premiered, I can remember going to the beach and seeing no one in the water for several days. It was probably two weeks after seeing Jaws that I first went back into the ocean.

The one that stands out is JAWS and I remember seeing it on the big screen and then didn't want to go to the beach every again,
