An unknown dog.

United States
August 11, 2023 2:30pm CST
An unknown dog showed up in my yard on Sunday morning. I have been trying to find out who this dog belongs to since it showed up in my yard because I do not need a dog in my life right now. I just hope somebody claims the dog real soon. It kind of looks like somebody just dropped the dog off on me and abandoned it. I do get abandoned animals like that every now and then because I live a ways out of the closest town.

You should probably call animal control. Around here we have Nextdoor the online newsletter of sorts. Half of the posts are about lost pets...people finding pets, losing pets etc.

@Scrapper88 It may not be in your area. It isn't everywhere...but you could see maybe where the closest one is to you...if it will let you.

@Scrapper88 a friend had a dog dumped on her and now she has the mama dog and eight baby puppy's. She’s trying to give them away.

Maybe it is lost, but will eventually make its way home? I sure hope so. I hate to think of a dog suffering in the heat. People dump dogs out near my best friend’s property since she lives way out in the country.

It was a mixed breed dog. At least I couldn't recognize what breed of dog it was from.

There are a few people on my neighborhood's Nextdoor page that will scan found pets for microchips to try to help them reunite with their owners. Maybe someone in your area is willing to come and check for you. If not, it should be something a local veterinarian can do.

People do just leave dogs alone. I hope you can get the poor dog to a good place. Thank you for trying to help the dog.

If you are on facebook, there is usually a lost and found dog group page for each town or county, that you can post just in case it is lost or stolen. And yes, any vet should be able to check for a chip without charging you. They do here.
