I Was Reminded of Grandma's Garden

I was reading @sallypup's post "I have treasure" and it reminded me of my grandmother's garden. I would usually spend my summers at my grandparent's home here in Boise after Mom and I moved to Pocatello with my stepdad and stepbrother. My grandma canned baked bread once a week and was the best cook. So grandma's vegetable garden had carrots, potatoes, beans, corn, and other things I don't recall. Around the further side were blackberry bushes, raspberries, and black caps. Also were planted currant bushes, a pie cherry tree, concord grapes, a rhubarb bush, an apricot tree, and a prune tree. Boy! Would I get sick? Thank you for the memory, Lenore!

I loved to also but can't anymore. And no place really to do any gardening around here now anyway.

You are welcome! Your Grandmother was ambitious and a hard worker. I bet her pies were over the moon tasty. Did she have a shady spot for you two to sit in and talk?

She sure was. I wish I had helped her more. She had a grape arbor in the back yard.

@celticeagle Grape arbors are super in the hot summer time. I need to have a garden. It keeps me moving; gives me a destination and something to either groan over or laugh over.

@sallypup .........There you have it. I enjoyed it when we had one at my ex's. I also had a nice herb garden just outside the back door which was just off the kitchen. I used to make wreaths from all the greenery.

Just like my grandmother's garden, also our own. We had peaches, though, not apricots.

When I was little, I would go into my dad's garden and pick the green tomatoes off the vines. He was not happy.

She lived through the Depression. Always had something brewing on the back of the wood-burning stove for whoever might come around wanting a meal.
