Clear Channel Memo Songs: Travelin’ Man

Well, we did have a momentary lapse of sanity, to paraphrase a Pink Floyd album title, yesterday. For today’s song that was on the Clear Channel Memorandum list of songs that might be inappropriate to play after 9/11, we’re going back to the “WHAT????” department. Sing along.
Travelin’ Man - Ricky Nelson
No, Clear Channel, yesterday’s “key word” for inclusion was NOT “travel.”
And I wonder why this song didn’t raise the ire of people responsible for last month’s list of banned songs. Y’know, this guy is bragging about having “a girl in every port,” as the sailors used to say.
Oh, yeah, we addressed that with the women’s songs that were banned: it’s okay if the man is the floozy. (Or, as Joan Rivers once said, “A man can sleep around and sleep around and nobody says anything. A woman makes 19, 20 mistakes and she’s labeled a tramp.”
)
Okay, enough of that. This is one of Ricky Nelson’s great hits and one of his best-remembered.
And, from the “did you know” department, the late Randy Meisner of the Eagles was a member of Nelson’s Stone Canyon Band before joining the Eagles.
Musicians really are travelin’ men and women!

I think the only people who wanted to go anywhere that week were the people who got trapped where the plane landed.

Imperial Records! Obviously we had Ricky Nelson 45s, too. I think we had “Poor Little Fool.”
