T he wise will not cry hoarse during summer as they will have stored enough rain water.
Some even have lakes around them and that caters to those in the neighbourhpood.
We have pits in the compound and the water gets filled there and gets absorbed in the soil and even get to the close by reservoirs that provide water for wells. May not be our well but atleast it will help fill wells belonging to the neighbours
Have you done water harvesting?

We have our own source but letting water into the ground is good for wells around

@allknowing That's good then. We don't have many wells. There is one by St Chad's Church but it's not used for drinking water.

@sharonelton I think even those reservoirs from where you get your tap water needs ground water

I have not, but one of my best friends who is a nurse, but wants to "live off the land" currently has it in her plans to do so. You and she would have much to talk about, actually. Your love of plants, natural remedies, and openness to making things from scratch are very similar. In addition, she is a huge animal lover, and has a great head on her shoulders over everything.

Ask your friend to join myLot (lol) Actually we have enough well water but the water that we let into the ground goes to reservoirs that help fill wells of others.
Everyone in the world is talking of water shortage and if whoever can save rain water there will be no shortage.

@allknowing That is wonderful to think about, isn't it. No water shortage?
Maybe she will join Mylot one day. I invited her to sign up years ago, but she never did. She's very reluctant to join any kind of social site, but I know she'd enjoy it.

You can let the water seep in to your property.

We did that all the time in Latvia and changed the rain barrels when they were full,

There is water shortage the world over and if everyone did this that problem could be solved.

In Israel we only get rain in October to Feb, maybe March, but it is not enough to harvest to last even a week of drinking water.

Something is better than nothing. That is enough rain to harvest

@allknowing 49.2 mm (1.9 in) per month is the amount of rain, usually it is much left. How do you harvest the rain? Put out a cup? I am on the 7th floor in an apartment building.

No, I haven't. My grandparents had a large cistern tank by their back porch to hold the rainwater. Some people here have rain barrels. We have not really had enough to harvest in any way.

But there are many who do not. I have no problem we have well that is never dry and even then we let water into pits so that other wells get filled up

Rain water should get absorbed in the ground

Individuals who own properties can easily do it

When I was a kid we had our own well. The run off of water during and after the spring thaw kept us sufficiently supplied with water during the summer.

If one owns property it is good if water is allowed to soak in the ground which will eventually reach reservoirs.
