Another New Battery

I may have posted a few months back about buying a new battery for The Beast. Today, I bought a new battery for K's car. It nearly left her stranded at work Thursday evening if not for the help of one of her co-workers who provided a jump start. As with the old battery for The Beast, the one in K's car was over four years old. Both were only rated for three years. We count ourselves lucky to have gotten an extra year out of each of them. K's car is running fine now. I am concerned, though, about our planned December drive to California and back. The car is eight years old and will have at least 140,000 miles on it when we leave on our trek. Have you ever driven across the US? Or any other trip measured in the thousands of miles?

We drove the old Route 66 years ago and enjoyed every mile.

Part of our upcoming trip in December will parallel Route 66 as we drive west on Interstate 40.

@LadyDuck I hope so. We'll be on a tight schedule, so won't get to see many of the sites as we pass through. In a year or two, after K retires, we'll repeat the trip with the camper and take our time.

The furthest we ever went in a car was Ohio to the east coast and back. Our trip to California we flew to San Diego, rented a car and drove from Mexico to Vancouver, Canada. Enjoy your Sunday.

When I was stationed near Tacoma, WA, I visited Vancouver, BC a few times. I loved it there.

@DWDavis Yes, and there are some lovely mountain views from there.

I've flown several times. I've driven up and down the east coast but never coast to coast.

I sure would not be travelling that far in a car that I am worried about. Yes I have driven many many miles..across country you may say. I had a good car at the time.

I will have the car gone over with a fine-toothed comb before we go to ensure it is ready for the trip.

I don't really want to either. It's K's idea.

I haven’t, but I think I’d fly rather than drive.

As would I. But K is insisting we drive. If it were a couple of years in the future and she was retired, we could take our time and camp our way across. As it is, we'll be on a pretty tight schedule.

My first car battery lasted for 10 years. Second one lasted a single year. I'm not sure how old the current battery is now. Its the tires that I have issues with though my elderly car just keeps chugging.
