Okay, so we’ve established that some of these songs that ended up on the Clear Channel Memorandum of songs that might be inappropriate in the wake of 9/11 were stretches of the imagination, to say the very least. But today’s song???? Seriously?? #4: Doctor, My Eyes - Jackson Browne Eponymously-titled albums can get nicknames. The Beatles is more often called “The White Album” than The Beatles. Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 self-titled album is also called their “white album.” Just to be silly, the Metallica album is nicknamed “The Black Album” (actually, it’s because it has a black cover). So what’s the nickname of Jackson Browne’s 1972 debut? “Saturate Before Using.” The cover of the album was designed like a desert water bag, which was usually made of burlap. It would “sweat” a little, allowing the evaporation to provide cooling (especially for cars). The instruction, “saturate before using,” is prominent on the cover. Jackson Browne admitted he never dreamed anyone would mistake that for the title. He was wrong. This was Browne’s first single and first hit. His second hit came a few weeks later, when the song he co-wrote with Glenn Frey, “Take It Easy,” became the first Eagles hit. As for why it’s on the memo list….your guess is as good as mine. Maybe the Clear Channel execs forgot to saturate their brains before using. Doctor, My Eyes Written by Jackson Browne Recorded by Jackson Browne From Jackson Browne, 1972 I have wandered through this world:

@LindaOHio — they’re novelty or comedy songs, so you might at least laugh while you’re getting your migraine from the music.

Love the song. Cannot imagine why it's on the list. The criteria used to assemble the list are ridiculously broad. I mean, any song that mentions the month of September wasn't supposed to be played?

He was popular here in America in the 70s, especially in the late 70s.

I loved him a lot more when he was the “introspective singer/songwriter” than when he was political. Oh, well.

@Dena91 — tell me about it. You think about a song like “The Monkey That Became President” by Tom T. Hall, and it addresses “those people making monkeys out of you and me” in general, NOT “don’t vote for this party or that person.” And songs that tell events like Gordon Lightfoot’s “Black Day in July” or U2’s “Pride (in the Name of Love)” don’t go into political aspects. Nowadays someone couldn’t write a song about a tornado without making it political.

@FourWalls I'm with that with anyone who is "famous" and shoves their political views on us. If you're a sport player, play your sport. If you're an actor/tress, act If you're a singer, sing When they shove their views on us, I stop watching/listening to them. For this simple reason, they don't care what my views are. So why would they think I care what theirs are???

Such a popular song. That station needed a doctor to open their eyes to a wonderful and lyrically relatable tune.
