The United States Coast Guard (USCG) witnessed a 30 foot recreational boat taking on water near the Forked River near Barnegat Bay on Sunday afternoon. The 29 foot USCG rescue boat who was on the bay working on operations when they answered the call for help from the recreational boat as the rescue boat was able to get a dog and the four passengers out of the sinking boat and into the rescue boat. After the recreation boat was evacuated by the rescue boat, the recreational bost capsized into the bay. The four rescued boaters were taken by the USCG rescue boat to the marina in Lanoka Harbor as well as the capsized boat that was righted by a salvage company and taken to the same marina. The leaders of the USCG are grateful that the rescue boat was near the accident scene to rescue the dog and the four persons in the recreational boat/ The captain of the recreational boat believes that the boat that sunk into the bay was taking on water due to a loose plug that could not be reached. How scary to be on a boat taking on water. Thankfully for them the coast guard was close by and able to lend a helping hand.

Not a minute too soon then, as their boat sunk. If the rescue boat was not around, they might have been left in the water, and might not have been rescued for a while, if at all. A good result here.
