The Beast needs new shoes

Today I ordered new tires for the Beast. On Thursday, I'll go to the shop and have them installed. If you've ever watched White Christmas with Bing Crosby when Danny Kay asks him how much it'll cost to bring the show to Vermont, then you'll know what I mean when I say the cost was somewhere between Yikes and Boiiing. I knew it wasn't going to be cheap. My sincere hope is that these tires last at least as long as the original set. The tires are necessary because state inspection time is coming up, and the old ones won't pass. Also, with our cross-country trip coming up, I want to make sure the Beast is ready. Have you had to replace tires on a vehicle recently? Were you shocked at the price of tires?

We recently had our tires rotated. The van is technically three years old, even though we've had it for two.

@DWDavis That's a long time. No wonder you were worried about the tires. George's driving has lessened in recent times. He's not working so while it feels about the same (us going out a couple times a week) it's still less then what he had been doing.

We've had The Beast since October 2018 but it is a 2019 model. I special ordered it to get all the towing extras it needed for pulling our camper.

We replaced the tires on our car last January... and yes, they were more expensive than the last set I bought for it... almost twice as much. Luckily, tires on it last several years. (Especially since I'm not working anymore so don't have to drive every day.)

Now that I'm retired, The Beast doesn't move much, either, except when we go camping. It will see a lot of highway when we go to California in December. That's one of the big reasons I want it to have new tires.

@DWDavis I don't blame you. I'd hate to start out or start back and have tire trouble.

This is the first new set for The Beast. I did just buy new tires for the camper this spring.

We see the massive trucks here and sometimes count the tyres. They must have a huge bill when the tyres need replacing.

I cannot even begin to imagine. Our friends who drive the motorhomes have massive tires and they replace 6 at a time.

@JudyEv K is very good at that sort of thing. The money for the Beast's new shoes is already in the bank.

@DWDavis You really need to build these maintenance costs into the budget when you're thinking about purchasing these big monsters.

One of our cars needs tires VERY badly; but I can't get hubby to go to Walmart and get them purchased. I"m sure they're very expensive. Have a good day.

I've started buying tires at Discount Tire. They have competitive prices and give a veteran's discount.

Yes just a few weeks ago. But no I wasn't shocked as such. I knew they were going to be expensive and they were, although strangely they don't seem to have gone up much since the last time, unlike many other things.

These are the largest tires I've ever had to buy, so maybe that is why I got hit with sticker shock.

@DWDavis That would make a difference. I know that tyres for larger vehicles like tractors cost eye-watering amounts - one set of tyres that size costs almost as much as I paid for my car!

It's been several years but I can imagine nowadays what we would be charged for a set.

And, of course, the Beast is an F-250 4x4 we use to tow our 5th wheel, so it needs larger than normal tires.
