We made the switch

We no longer have Spectrum and are now Verizon FIOS customers. A guy came in today to install FIOS in our house. It took him a while to get everything up and running. And then he had to show me how to use the remote and the interface. It is not complicated but will take some time to get familiar with all the options. As he was leaving I said thank you and started handing him a tip as hubby told me to do that. He said that they are not allowed to accept money from customers. Not sure if that's good or bad. We are now going to pay way less every month than we were paying with Spectrum. And we will have access to the channels that are no longer available on Spectrum because of Disney. They gave us a 60-day trial of most of the channels (at no extra cost) and within that time period we have to figure out what we want to keep and what we want to get rid of. I guess that means we will have an even lower bill. Unless it means price will remain the same but just won't increase. We were told that the rate for TV, Internet, and DVR will be locked in for four years. I hope that will actually be the case.

Enjoy it and it is always good to have to pay less for anything, I do not watch much of regular TV but I always have Internet and I can watch my DVDs and videos,

I hate jumping from one provider to another. But they leave us no choice with their ridiculous prices.

@RebeccasFarm Well, with Spectrum we paid $12 or $12.99 (I forget) for DVR and could record many shows at once. With FIOS it's $20. So that's not cheaper.

There I was setting up my DVR to record all my shows only to find a conflict. Only two shows can record at once. I was mad. I need to be able to record more than two shows at once. Thankfully, there was an option to upgrade so we can record up to 6 shows at once. It will cost us $8 more a month but that is not too bad.

I have Cox, and they aren't allowed to accept tips either. I hope your rate stays low. These cable people want to make me cry.

@lovebuglena No, it has been around for quite awhile. It may be like how Spectrum doesn't reach me, Cox doesn't reach you. If it ever does get to New York, run fast, and run far.

It's weird how it happened. I wasn't planning on giving a tip and it turns out they can't even accept it. Saved me $20 as that's how much hubby wanted me to give the guy. Wonder why they aren't allowed to take a tip though. I've never heard of Cox. Is it new?

I really do hope you are happy with your choice. I still use Spectrum because I don't have to pay for it. And, since I cut the cord, I only pay for what we actually use.

@lovebuglena I can understand that. Believe me. I've hopped around to different providers chasing the best prices.

@kaylachan So they gave us DVR service but it turned out to be one where you can only record two shows at once. Had to upgrade that for $8 more per month to be able to record multiple shows at once. So instead of $12 we will be paying $20.

Thank you. We've had it before and it wasn't bad. Hopefully, the same will be true now.

@lovebuglena You are welcome since some years ago my relatives and I were thinking of switching from Suddenlink Communications to another company but we decided to stay with the current company for now.

@Deepizzaguy When the Verizon guy first came to our door (when hubby wasn't home) I told myself I will not switch and then I agreed when he came back later that day.

I hope you're happy with FIOS. We are still paying the ridiculous Spectrum rates. Hope you have a good day.

Maybe you can downgrade your TV package. That will save you something. We had downgraded from Gold to Silver and that decreased our bill by $20.

Thankfully tipping is quite rare here. It's always a bit of a headache if we go overseas trying to work out what's a fair thing.

@lovebuglena I think at the time, and it was a while ago, we'd work on a 10% tip as a starter.

I think, no matter where you are, tips should be optional. Sometimes restaurants here automatically add what they call a service charge (I think 18%) to the bill. And you have no say over it. And then they want you to leave a tip on top of that.

Will see how much the total will actually be once we get our first bill. We had to upgrade our DVR service because the one they initially gave us only allowed two shows to be recorded at once. $8 more will be added to the bill every month.
