Oh, y’all ain’t gonna like next month’s theme. But that’s for later. I’m back from the women vets’ open house at the VA hospital (which is why I’m late) and ready to give you the song that tops the list of funny songs. Fully endorsed by @TheHorse and others, here’s today’s top song. #1: Let’s Talk Dirty in Hawaiian - John Prine As I mentioned, there’s a sentimental attachment to this song. I played it for my mother once. She laughed until she cried. Then she insisted on hearing it again. And again. As a result, every time I took her somewhere, this was the first song I played when she got in the car. And I had to play it twice. But it’s not the attachment to my dear mother of blessed memory that puts the song on the list. No, this is a funny song. “Would you like a lei?” Yes, they have shirts in Honolulu that say, “I got lei’d in Hawaii.” So John Prine took that double entendre and ran with it, all up and down the Waikiki beach. The results are classic. Thanks for reading. Let’s Talk Dirty in Hawaiian Written by John Prine and Fred Koller Recorded by John Prine From German Afternoons, 1986 Hope I said it right:

@FourWalls What's so funny is that if your pants are to your knees, you might feel a breeze! So "shootin' the breeze" was the perfect way to describe whatever they were doing.

I just played it twice too and laughed all the way. I'd just about forgotten this one.

He had a lot of songs that had a humorous twist. This is one of the best (along with, as Horse mentioned, “Dear Abby”).

“Lady Marmalade” had all the junior high school kids signing up for French because it was said the lyrics were dirty.

Yep. My being stationed in Hawaii had nothing to do with it.

I don’t know what’s sicker, the mind that came up with it or my mind for appreciating it so!
