Ain’t This a Countdown: Ain’t That a Kick in the Head

For newer readers of my countdowns, I occasionally point out that these countdowns are all by one person. Not too many people go from Bob Seger to Dean Martin in the same week.
Many more surprises coming, too in this look at songs with “ain’t” in the title. Here’s today’s tune.
Ain’t That a Kick in the Head - Dean Martin
So this song made its debut in Ocean’s 11, huh? You learn something new every day! (I suppose I should tell you kids the original Ocean’s 11, not the George Clooney remake.) That goes to show you how many Sinatra films I’ve watched! (Basically Von Ryan’s Express [because Edward Mulhare was in it
] and That’s Entertainment.) And, if you give me the option of the two as singers, I’ll take Dean Martin.
In the film Martin gets a job as a lounge singer in one of the casinos they’re going to rob, and this is one of his songs. It’s a good one.
For our British friends, I guess I should also mention that I like Vic Reeves’ version of this in an episode of the remake of Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased).
Ain’t That a Kick in the Head
Written by Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen
Recorded by Dean Martin
Released as a single, 1960

Dean had that skill. I love “Memories Are Made of This.”

He was funny as well as a great singer and a pretty good actor. (I mean, the “drunk” act was just that!)

Surely he was very good to play the "drunk".

I like it because it sounds so much older than it actually is. It sounds like it should be from the 40s, not 1960!

He did, didn’t he!! The funny thing was, it was an act. The “booze” was apple juice. Maybe he did that because of the way he sang. “They’ll buy my records if they think I sing this way because I’m drunk.”

Who’d they irritate to get a nickname like the “Rat Pack”? Can’t believe Sinatra would stand for people calling him a rat.

See, it’s not all country just because of “ain’t.” You might want to bookmark this song for the next country song, however.
