The Unicorn Farm

I love unicorns. I came upon this story on PBS and wanted to share it: In Bonner County, in northern Idaho, there is a very unique house. It was built by Joseph Henry Wythe who was a student of Bruce Gont. Gont was associated with Frank Lloyd Wright, the famous architect. Lois and Joseph were looking for property in 1977. They wanted a place where they could enjoy nature and be on or near the water. On a whim, Lois had decided on a unicorn as the focal point. The house was built facing south and the horn of the unicorn is a series of windows in a screened-in- porch. It has magnificent views. All throughout are unicorns, some in wood, and some statues. The structure is what is called organic architecture, and is built into the earth with a earthen roof. The walls, cabinets, and framework are all wood. The narrator says: "there are about as many of these houses as there are unicorns." Lois passed away in 2011 and Joseph in 2019 just before his 98th birthday. Take a tour of the place here:
