I was born in Bremerton, Washington on the Naval base there. When my dad was finished with his enlistment they brought me home to Boise. I remember mom telling me they fed me peaches all the way and to this day I don't care much for peaches. I still remember very vaguely the little house we lived in out on the Bench.
My mom and dad separated when I was about 6 months old. The reason was that my dad was not much at communicating and it finally drove my mom to leave him. My mom went to work and left me with my grandmother during the day.
I can remember when I was about 4 or 5 my grandmother would be on the back porch washing clothes and she had me out there with her. She had an old-fashioned washer, one with a ringer. The machine agitator would wash the clothes and then she would rinse them in a big tub and put them through the wringer to start the drying process and get a lot of the water and moisture out of the clothes.
She would wash my granddad's shirts using the blueing on his cuffs and collar as I recall. Don't know how that worked but I know she did that.
The clothes were hung out on the line that went from the backport out to the side of the garage. I remember the smell of Napha soap and watching the clothes blow in the wind. Nothing better than towels or putting on an article of clothing freshly dried on the line.
Those were the days. *sigh*

I know how you feel since I do miss the days living in the former Canal Zone seeing ships on Pacific side of the Panama Canal entering or leaving the area.

Sounds interesting and reminds me of a time on Victoria Island in Canada. Lovely.

@celticeagle Small town that were in the former Canal Zone and nice farm communities in the interior section where my late uncles and late aunts used to live.

I miss my old wringer washer. It broke down a few years ago and I haven't been able to find another one.

I remember washing my jeans in the bathtub and ringing them out by hand. Had sores on my hands when I was done too.
