Every day I clean the Winchesters' beautiful house top to bottom. I pick up their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor. I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband, Andrew, seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew's handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it's hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina's life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband... I try on one of Nina's pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it's like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it's far too late. But I reassure myself: the Winchesters don't know who I really am. They don't know what I'm capable of... ~~~~ What isn't disclosed here but is disclosed early on in the book (so not really a spoiler) our narrator of Part 1 is Minnie who is an ex-convict who was living in her car before she got this job. She has kept this a secret from the Winchesters. Part 2 is narrated by Nina (Mrs. Winchester), and then back and forth between the two POV's. This was a can't put downable read. The chapters were very short. The story intriguing. The reader really thinks they know what is going on, or what will happen. Nothing is predictable in this story. So many jaw-dropping twists and turns. And that's what makes this such a great thriller. The next book, The Housemaid's Secret, is out now and I MUST have it. This was definitely a 5 star read.

It sounds like a great miniseries for Lifetime.

I'm not sure. Do they do thriller movies? We don't have Lifetime here.

@AmbiePam In Canada we have a channel called "W" which I am pretty sure stands for Women. The Women's Network.

@patgalca Yes, they do thrillers; it is television geared towards women.

Yes. Way back in say, 1800, servants were expected to just be part of the furniture even as they ran the household or get booted to the poor house. Who knows what secrets hide behind those servants? Those servants who know how to chop-vegetables- or?

This Housemaid is a lot more complicated, the story a lot more twisted.

I know I read this book but I cannot remember the ending. It must have been one of those endings that leave you feeling puzzled.

That's because it was kind of a cliffhanger and you have to read The Handmaid's Secret to find out what happens next.

I like that the chapters are short. That one definitely sounds like a must read.
