New Noisy Neighbors - Hope Not!

The house in back of us was always so quiet. A retired cop lived there . . . we did not know him well, but he was a nice guy. The past few months had been particularly quiet. It wasn't until we walked around to the next street to his house that we saw a "For Sale" sign. By internet research, we found out he had passed away . It stayed quiet until a couple weeks ago. Contractors have started coming in from early in the morning to work on the house. The construction noises were to be expected, but these guys just talked and laughed so loud into the night. There is not much distance between any of the houses out here. The other evening, there seemed to be an outdoor get together in the backyard. There was a fire pit glow on the porch walls - and the construction guys (I could recognize the voices) with some women. As usual, they were all LOUD . We realized then that maybe these were actually our new neighbors . I hope NOT, but I do know that the house has officially been sold. Do you live with noisy neighbors around?

Aw, sorry to hear about your neighbor passing. Oh no! I hope they're just the contractors and not the new neighbors Construction noise during the day and regular business hours is fine but into the night and more is not ok especially if it's a daily thing.

@infatuatedbby Ah, the flippers have invaded my parents' neighborhood too. That area is nicer than ours. But there, it's multi-families that are cramming themselves into 1 house . . . the problem is that means a lot of cars for only a 2 car garage .. . so everyone is parking and filling up the streets. Sometimes my mom has a hard time putting the trash cans out there . . . the house next door fills up 7 car spaces on that street. But in our neighborhood, there are some of those ADUs . . . or converted garages, or houses being split into a couple or more "units" (not sure how) . . . but yah, someone makin' hella. I'm not sure who exactly is moving in, but for now they seem to be working on the house after hours (not too late though) . . . so I have to wonder .

Thank you - we were shocked and bummed to hear about his passing too. We wish we could have gotten to know him better. There are lots of house flippers here . . . and the trend seems to be turning these houses into multi-units. Whatever is actually going on there, I know the construction part will eventually end, but I don't know about the people part. This morning it's actually quiet!

@much2say It is so annoying with the house flippers. It's making the community look ugly. Thankfully it's not happened to my area but my parents' yes! As if the land is not small already, they're cramming those ADU and its literally like a foot away from the house. That way its 2 houses on 1 lot then you can rent them both out and make hella. Do you think investors purchased the home or they're actually doing construction to live there? I guess you'll find out in a few months if its up for sale again.

We're not sure if construction folks were just having dinner outside because it was late and they were still working . . . or if it was actually a gathering. I seriously hope that was not a glimpse of new neighbors. Oh wow, are you in a rural area? It must be awesomely quiet out there!!

When I lived in an apartment, that was just something you had to get used to. Apartments around here tend to be cheaply constructed, poorly insulated (if at all) with paper-thin walls. When we lived in this one complex, we had a neighbor who'd keep us up at night. George was doing a mix of opens and closes, so that was less than helpful. We really hadn't had neighbor issues since buying our house. And, if there is noise, it's usually during the day.

We used to live in various apartments before buying this house too. Ohhhh, I know exactly what you're saying about those thin walls - I'm glad we're not having to deal with that stuff anymore. But some of the people around this neighborhood are just UGH . . . not always, but when it happens, it just makes me want to scream.

We took for granted how quiet it had been with that neighbor . . . he was always pleasant on the rare occasions we spoke to him, I wish we had gotten to know him better. I am hoping that was just an evening meal for the construction workers brought by their wives. They are still working on the house as of today.

Geez, did I really take this long to reply back to you ? Sorry about that! The contractors are still there. So I still really don't know who is actually moving in. The place has defiitely been sold, but since these guys are now parking their trucks in back, I am thinking they are flippers and will eventually sell that house as a mutli-unit dwelling. Parties are already out of hand at certain houses . . . I sure hope this one doesn't become one of them !

Is your upstairs guy a stomper and slammer? I remember that from the apartments - upstairs and next doors - and we lived where there were a lot of college students. I'm sorry you're not getting sleep because of that guy . We've had our share of crazy neighbors - I thought we got rid of them with the last ones next door. And now this. There is a trend of folks buying houses here and turning them in to dinky multi-units. If this is the case, it's quite possible it will be noisy whether it's these guys or not .

@RebeccasFarm Please feel free to email me anytime! I loved our first apartment, but I hated all the noise from all sides . . . plus we were right next to the pool area where all the noise echoed. I remember having to take the broom to the ceiling but of course that doesn't stop them. Did you meet the guy upstairs? Apparently the cop neighbor was battling cancer - we had no idea.

OH NO!! Noisy neighbors are a nightmare. We had a family who had 5 children (from 3 years old to 18 years old). They were noisy during the day, not during the evening or the night. They were renting and they have left, no more noises here.

We have had our share of nightmare neighbors - I really do not want these people to be the ones who move in there. Kids can be noisy . . . and in different ways depending on their ages (interestingly I did not hear any kids that particular night). There is a trend here of people buying houses and changing them into multi-units to be rented out . . . . I hope that house is not becoming that situation. Some of these people who rent just do not care about anything. I'm glad your noisy neighbors left!

@LadyDuck There used to be many long time owners here, but many of them have passed away or have retired and moved to other states. I actually don't understand how multi-units can be made out of these houses - they are small! The renters must be paying A LOT for not much space. Apartments rent is sky high and housing prices are insane. Right - a lot of renters do not take care of their place - none of us here want these renters here. Our next door used to be a renting house - and the whole situation was awful for all of us around that house. I hope that won't be the case for whomever moves in back of us!

@much2say I am glad that in the area where I live "multi units" are not allowed. All those around us are owners and a little younger than we are... so we have good hopes that the situation remain unchanged. Those who rent are less attentive not to annoy the others, as they never stay long.

how sad to lose such a fella. purty certain that jest 3 folks out here know the hubs passed. 'tis rare i see hide nor hair 'f folks out here 'xcept fer the closest leavin'/returnin' fer work. but, 'bout 1/2 mile down the road 'tis been a nightmare from hades since they 'rrived. they started raisin' dairy calves..'long with ducks, chickens, a herd 'f pups, 9 young'uns, etc. the critters make more commotion than they. can't e'en hear yerself think when outdoors'n the morns 'n eve. e'erythin' 'tis cryin', desperate fer food. all caged'n small confinement 'n the stench when the wind blows 'tis horrific. the law does nothin' 'bout such, nor their massive tons 'f garbage that blows 'cross all's properties to find a home'n my 6' chainlink fence...

Oh no. Are they the city slickers that moved in a few years ago? All those poor critters - they must be miserable - not being able to live their best lives being imprisoned like that. These people must not see or care how this kind of life (or no life really) affects their poor "pets" or their neighbors. I know, people get away too many things - it is sick that we have laws but not anyone to enforce 'em. It's interesting. I know you have pretty big property, and there must be a lot of distance between all the neighbors. Here, the distance is just a few steps away and we "see" people, but most of them keep to themselves . . . not even a wave hello ever even if we wave. People are so .

@much2say no ma'am, these 'riginated from ol' mexico. the city slickers yer referrin' to 've been replaced twice.. their pups ran 'mok fer near a year. killed lots 'f the feral barn cats fer o'er a mile, lots 'f chickens, e'en a few calves. the folks denied they'd such pups... one'd a litter 'f 12pups out'n my big barn! she 'twas not people friendly. the son found a gal who'd a trap big 'nough fer the momma 'n once captured, gathered the pups. nothin' like havin' 8 pit bulls runnin' loose 'round these parts. i reckon they penned the ones they 'liked'?? they bark near non-stop. not 'nough distance fer me. folks keep sellin' out, buyin' houses with land. then they sell the land'n small acreage. most disheartenin'.

We had noisy ones in the past but they didn't bother us, but they admitted the neighbors on the other side because their bedrooms were close to the new neighbors back yard. The noisy ones have long been gone and our street is quiet again. If it continues you could possibly talk to the police. Some areas try to keep the noise down when possible. You could also talk to the neighbors and maybe they would be more considerate.

Oh look who's here . . . nice to see you, Marsha ! You're lucky to have a quiet street back again! We got rid of the most noisiest ones about 4 years ago . . . I hope new ones are not moving in out back. We have even noisier neighbors all around the area . Can you believe we can hear the parties of this one house 2 streets down (they have mics and speakers - crazy). I think the cops will not come out for noise disturbances anymore . . . there is a 10pm time when noises are to end, but people do what they want .
