Back to Georgia (in Memories)

Since the photo issue has been fixed here, I thought I’d post what I saw while on my quick jaunt last month. Also, I figure that I owe people who dared to listen to Webb Pierce this morning in my “ain’t song” countdown something to compensate for the torture.
This is the view from Brasstown Bald, which is the highest point in the state of Georgia. I imagine it’s unreal with the foliage beauty up there (4,784 feet, or 1,458 meters, according to Picky Wedia). As you can see, even with the “normal summer” green it’s still a breathtaking view!
I had a great time there, and I know the people who are visiting during peak foliage season are enjoying it immensely!

I’ve seen the beauty in that state, I’ll give it lots of credit!

@FourWalls Amen! People who haven’t been are the ones that don’t know.

I took the shuttle. It’s about half a mile from the parking lot to the pinnacle…but STRAIGHT UP about 600 feet.

@TheHorse — that’s worse than the walk to Clingman’s Dome, which is “only” about a 450 foot elevation gain. Going back down is real easy, though. I was zooming down the path and someone said, “Oh, you’ve got energy.” “This isn’t energy, it’s gravity!” I replied.

What a beautiful view! I guess it does make up for Pierce. Have a great Sunday.

Today’s country song isn’t all that bad. Tomorrow’s is. I’ll find more scenery.

What a great view. I've never been west of Atlanta. You forget Georgia is just not the eastern coastline of Savannah or beaches (which I visited) but has mountain areas too.

You’ve never been west of Atlanta??? I think that’s why I was so overwhelmed by Badlands National Park…like nothing I’d ever seen.

The leaves I can see are beautiful. Unfortunately, it’s very foggy up there this morning.

I’ve watched the webcams from there, but there’s nothing like actually being there and seeing that view yourself.

@FourWalls That is very true since the experience of being there is better than seeing the venue via video.

I have lots of good memories of that view. For a good 15 years while our children were growing up we went camping in North GA every summer and we always took the time to visit Georgia's highest point. My kids could quote the movie that they used to show in the theater at the top. It's been 10 years since we've been there...I wonder if they still show the same one.

I can’t find the video online, which is odd. Many of the films they show in the welcome centers at national spots are online (and have been since covid).
BTW, great to see you again!

I live in N Georgia about 80 minutes from Brasstown Bald. We have never been able to get to the top to see the view due to the weather, or the pandemic, etc. Foliage season peaks here during the last week of October so people still have to wait a bit to get the best foliage views. But I too bet it will be beautiful.

Well, I would’ve honked at you when I went by if I’d known you were in the neighborhood!
I check the cameras daily. Right now it’s foggy but the trees you can see are gorgeous.
