There was a time I would just keep collecting handkerchiefs and even matched them with my clothes.
I remember kerchiefs were never given as gifts unless they were given with some coins as just gifting kerchiefs was believed to break a friendship
I do not know what happened to my kerchiefs as I do not own any now . I use facial tissues. But strangely most Sites have them for sale. This image is from amazon.in

People kept giving mom fancy handkerchiefs like those. She preferred Kleenex facial tissues, too. After mom passed away, I took her handkerchiefs, most of them still in their store wrappers, and sewed them together and made a baby quilt from them and gave it to one of my nieces who had just had a little girl... My niece hung it on a wall to keep and show off to friends and family...

@allknowing I'm glad my niece liked it well enough to want to show it off and preserve it.
You probably packed them up and they're put away somewhere. You'll come across them one day when you least expect it.

They must be just stored in your cupboard as I do not think you use them

These handkerchiefs were very common in my childhood. Our school even needed to check we all brought the handkerchiefs to school. Now nobody uses this kind of handkerrchiefs and people use tissue papers. I know it is much more convenient but not so environmental.

You are right But I think facial tissues are biodegradable unlike sanitary napkins

Men's kerchiefs are larger in size and for the purpose you use them they are ideal.
