Different Lunch Companion

Yesterday it was the beauty of friends.
Today? An ugly duck.
This is a Muscovy duck. I’m having the other half of the sub I got last night for lunch on the state capital grounds in Baton Rouge. There’s a lovely lake here…and ducks that know when it’s close to lunch time.
When I sat down there were a few ducks in the lake. Now there are a dozen on the sidewalk by the benches, waiting for people to come out and enjoy the beautiful day and the beautiful view while they chow down.
Lunch was good. I’ll detail the capital building later. Right now, it’s off to the Big Easy.

That's an interesting companion as long as you enjoy their quacking
. It doesn't look ugly to me

They are not the most regal, but are all over Florida, too.

@much2say — it looks like it got hit with a paintball.

They do look like a turkey a little in the face.

I know, he looks like he dipped his face in some Maker’s Mark wax.
Very pretty from a distance, though.

@FourWalls They might not want them there. They are great mothers that can hatch up to a dozen eggs at least 3 times a year

Many such Muscovy ducks accompanied me for meals while I lived in Florida, too.

@FourWalls I think Muskovy ducks, outnumber humans in Florida.

Muscovy duck. I see an occasion one by the pond in our neighborhood. Mystery solved. Here I thought that duck had some kind of genetic issue

Nope, that how they all look….like they got hit with a paintball splat.

And they can tell time, too! I got done with the capital a little after 11 local time, so I got my sub and a soft drink and sat down on the bench by the lake. At first they were in the lake; however, by the time I finished it was about 11:40, meaning it was getting closer to “lunch time” for the humans…and, by extension, for themselves!

Wish they’d shown up before I’d finished my sandwich and I would have given them some love.
