Another Great Trip in the Books

Thanks, as always, for coming along with me! I hope you had as much fun as I did!! The highlight, of course, was spending the day with my dear friends Charles and Ida in central Louisiana. We had lunch together, walked their property (a few wooded acres), and just had the best time. I love them dearly…they’re closer than some of my relatives! Then there was the trip down part of the Natchez Trace Parkway. There’s construction, so some of it in northern Mississippi is closed. It’s a good thing I didn’t intend to drive the entire parkway! But the part I did drive was wonderful, with great views, a waterfall, and plenty of history. The parkway follows the Natchez Trace (which is how it got its name…can’t pull anything over on the government! ), which was a trail used for centuries before the Europeans arrived. The site of Meriwether Lewis’s death and burial might be one of the most “famous” locales on the Trace; however, there are mounds showing the long, rich history of the American Indians in the area as well. I got Elvis, Bonnie & Clyde, the three assassinated civil rights workers in Mississippi, and Huey Long’s assassination site in the trip, too. Oh…and the beach. The car has been serviced (oil change, tire rotation, new wipers), and we’re all set to go as soon as the weather here necessitates me going to a warmer place.
