There are several ways one can ensure money stays
- Use no credit cards but manage with debit cards
- Do not succumb to "Sales"
- Go for needs and not wants if you have limited funds
- Do not waste - specially food
-Invest in instruments that increase your funds
- Develop a saving habit
Can you think of any other methods to ensure money stays with you?

When you are doing the purchasing online I suppose unless there is a cash on delivery one has no choice but to use the debit card

Ignore packages, upgrades, specials, etc on phone, internet, e-readers, tablets etc;
Check the unit price, especially those so-called bulk specials, bulks are often times more expensive per unit;
Don't buy new if the old will still do the job.

There may always be contingencies to deal with and so it is important to have reserve funds for that.

Spend for your needs but not for your wants if you are hard on cash

I have a profile with a ton of them. lol. But these are all excellent points and worth adhering to and heeding.
As for debit card vs. credit card, I have only one argument there. I would use a credit card that pays cash back rewards. BUT there's a huge caveat here. You cannot maintain a balance and have to pay it off each and every month so as not to incur interest. If you do this, you make money on things you would have bought anyway. Plus, credit cards traditionally offer more protections to the buyer than debit cards do.

I feel those paybacks tempt one to buy more. Just a thought. Also one needs to be alert to pay off in order to save on interest.

@allknowing Not if you are responsible with your money. I spend no more using the card for the rewards than I would without them. But I am a money HAWK.

I stock up items which I need. Where there are good deals like buy one get one free, I replenish my stock.
