Being 72 and just going through the business of making sure I have my situation set up for my family when my time comes I read this story with the obvious horror it caused me. On November 8th police in Oklahoma arrested the owners of an abandoned funeral home in El Paso County, Colorado. There were 190 decomposing human remains found inside. Jon and Carie Hallford were arrested while on the run from law enforcement. The charges include theft, abuse of a corpse, forgery, and money laundering. Coroner Randy Keller of Fremont County said that using fingerprints and medical records they were able to identify the bodies of 110 individuals. He said that 137 families were contacted and 24 corpses were returned. They are continuing to work on identifying the remaining corpses. Keller urges anyone who used services of Return to Nature between September 2019 and 2023 to contact his office. Lindsay Maher, a Woodland Park resident, Alleges that the funeral home gave them "concrete dust" instead of the ashes of her grandmother Yong Anderson. Her grandmother wanted to be cremated and her ashes spread in the ocean. Her body along with the other bodies were held in an abandoned building and would never have been found if it hadn't been for a person who lived nearby calling the authorities about a horrible smell. A $2 million bail has been set for Carie and Jon. Carie's lawyer asked the court to lower her bail to $50,000 but was denied due to the judge feeling they were a "risk to the community". I have heard of it before. It just hit home for me with getting this sort of thing taken care of in my own life.

I read about this in the news. It's horrific. I have my body going to Science Care for whatever medical need and then they will cremate and give back. My son will scatter me. It's really sad how these families are feeling about what's happened to their loved ones.

It's horrible to do families this way. I think what you have chosen to do is great.

@celticeagle It's free too. No paying out thousands of dollars. I don't want to be buried and if I can help science in any way, I want that.

I wrote a Discussion about this. I think Carie and Jon should be prosecuted to the extent of the law!!!

I didn't see it. I agree on them being prosecuted to the extent of the law.
