A Pinch of Nom

United Kingdom
December 12, 2023 4:57am CST
Today I went to the library to change my books. I was waiting in the queue to speak to the librarian when I over heard her and another lady talking about food. When I got my turn at the front of the queue I told the librarian that I was feeling hungry after hearing them speak about food. So she told me that they had a really good cookery book called `A Pinch of Nom'. I had not heard of this book before , so I borrowed it to get some inspiration. This book was published in 2019 and the people who wrote it now have their own website. I learned from their website that the whole Pinch of Nom thing began with them writing a slimming blog.

It did because it is the sort of food that I like to cook. The recipes look easy and very tasty. Apparently the authors have written more than one book, so I look forward to borrowing another of their books next time. I found it interesting that these books came about because somebody had started a blog. Most blogs end up going nowhere and it is nice to know that people can start a good business from writing one. I hope you did not mind me putting a link to this discussion on your comments, I presume we are allowed to do that.

@lazydaizee That's great! I'm glad you like to cook that kind of thing. Are you going to attempt some of the recipes then? I hope you manage to borrow another of their books aswell. Yes, it is amazing that the book came about because someone had started a blog. It's got me wondering - would anyone read a book of my MyLot posts? I didn't mind. I hope you are well. Have a nice day.

@sharonelton I think a book of myLot posts would be very interesting, then we would all be famous. I am going to try some of the recipes because many of them are very similar to the sort of food that I cook anyway, and their recipes show how the dishes can be made healthier and more interesting by combining different ingredients.

That sounds very handy, and how cool that they had such great success by beginning with a blog.

I thought it was good that they started off with a blog and now they have a really nice website and they publish their own books. I remember when I started a blog but it was not very popular. I did manage to make a small amount of money from it , but it took ages.

@just4him It should be fun to experiment with new ideas but I have to buy lots of new ingredients. The shops are so busy at the moment with everybody Christmas shopping and I do not like crowds. So I will be leaving this sort of thing until after the holidays.

@lazydaizee So I take it that this book is about making healthy food. Is that correct? What kinds of things are in the book to make? Did you get other books besides that one too and what kinds of books do you like to get at the library?

@lazydaizee I love action and thrillers and comedies also. The book sounds good and have you made a lot of the recipes in it?

@Hannihar Thrillers are good especially when there is a twist at the end. I have not made any of the recipes yet because I need to get some more ingredients. I am avoiding any unnecessary shopping at the moment with the shops being so busy. I do not like crowds , so I will leave this until after Christmas.

The recipes in this book are mostly healthy because they are focussing on readers who are trying to lose weight. Some of the recipes are spicy and savoury and a few are sweet puddings and cakes. The design of the book has a very modern feel to it and some of the sections give you the chance to make your own food that is comparable to ready meals brought in shops and food that can be ordered in from a takeaway. I did get several other books while I was there, I enjoy comedies and thrillers.

@TraveOnWorld Halloumi and cous- cous sounds interesting. I have recently started to use cous-cous in place of pasta and potatoes. It is easy to make and can be eaten plain or with a nice flavour added to make it more interesting. Cous-cous is inexpensive to buy and it is supposed to be healthy. Hope you enjoy the recipes if you try any of them. Sorry to hear that you have had a lot of stress in your family.

@lazydaizee I did, but not so much for the slimming (if we have to get any thinner after the last two years of family stress, we'll fall though our clothes), but more for the interesting takes they have on certain food items, like mixing halloumi and cous-cous. I've bookmarked the site. Thanks again for the post
