Discussion # 10 for me: do you write in a journal, plan to or want to start one?

December 14, 2023 7:45am CST
Good morning! This is the 10th discussion that I started! I will be starting plenty in the new year as it is part of my New Year's Resolutions Two weeks or so ago I realized that the notes I had been writing down before bed haphazardly on various pages in my note-to-myself notebooks were in reality a journal. I had always wanted to start a journal but was afraid I wouldn't have anything to write in it. I didn't know where to get started However, when I got the idea this is what I wanted in my journal and I can write in it daily. I get upset whenever I get carried away with my reading and don't have enough time to write everything I want to write in my journal each evening. I have a single notebook dedicated to being my personal journal. I put down what happened during the day and how I feel about it, and my other thoughts and feelings I would feel uncomfortable telling anyone else. I also write down what time I go to sleep and wake up and decided to start to add what I eat as we discovered I was getting dizzy from not eating enough when my doctor ruled out the physical problem we thought it was So, do you keep a journal or plan to start one?

@just4him how does an online journal work? do you have to pay for one? I prefer a pen and notebook but understand how some people would want to do it online. are you more comfortable writing online?

I hope you do start one as they are a great thing to start and know that one can go and write what they want and not be judged.

It sounds like your accidental journaling is going good. MyLot and Facebook are as close as I get to journaling.

@LovesEverybody there is a lot of drama that goes on with Facebook. I love it though I love to see photos of people’s family and what they are up to.

yes, starting to journal was the best thing I have ever done by accident! I don't do Facebook. I tried it once and somebody insulted me and I thought why would I stay around to be insulted?

@shaggin I was insulted because somebody told me to "lay off the caffeine lady" as if he knew if I consumed caffeine or not because I never saw or talked to him on Facebook so how would he know? I also never mentioned if I ever ate/drank caffeine. I am not one much for these new technologies like Facebook. I am lucky I am on myLot and the internet in general. I am glad you love Facebook so much! Happy New Year's!

I keep a daily journal. I do not write a lot, but I write what I did during the day. Also the weather and what we had for lunch and dinner.

I started with what I did during the day and then started to add what I felt about what I did. I just started my meals so I can make sure I eat enough because my case as I was getting dizzy for months from not eating enough I love the idea of adding the weather. I think I will add the weather from my area! I have been writing a lot as you can see I write long things and you won't know about me is that I talk a lot.

@LovesEverybody I always write what we eat. Should a doctor ask at least I can answer the question. I remember that often you did not eat enough, that was not good for you. I also like to talk, I liked to talk every day with my Mom.

@LadyDuck that is a good idea to have written down what I ate each day. I wasn't eating enough until Tuesday when my case manager and I discovered that was the reason I was getting so dizzy. I am not used to eating so much. Some days I only talk with onnie if nobody calls me. my sister sometimes calls me every two or three days. Sometimes it gets really lonely and some days I don't mind as I can get more reading done.

Yes I have a planner which is a hardcovered daily journal for the year. I jot down all sorts of things as well as keeping track of important things and appointments. I think you'll find it useful to keep a journal especially if you write what you're eating or feeling or doing you can go back to look at what you are or were doing.

@LovesEverybody keeping track of what you're eating is a must since you found that you weren't eating enough. This way you can check and not have to try to remember. Have a great day too

I have a big 18-month calendar on the dining room table that I just bought that makes me happy with the designs and I plan to keep track of appointments on that. I have been keeping my journal in a notebook That is a good idea to keep track of what I am eating so I know what I am eating and when I am eating it. I just decided today to add daily all that I eat in my journal. Before that, I was putting it down when I remembered. Thank you for sharing and have a great day!

Years ago, I used to keep a daily journal. It is similar to keeping a private diary, which my sister enjoyed doing. I tried keeping a diary, but became to busy doing things that I'd forget for about it. With your reading just set a certain time, to stop reading. Maybe just after supper, start writing in your journal. Watch TV for a while, then bedtime. Once you get into a set pattern, it will be simple to remember.

@LovesEverybody Girls used to write each day in a diary, it's just like a journal. My sister's had a key and a lock, so nobody could sneak into her room and read it.

@kobesbuddy I think I had a diary when I was around 8th grade. I forgot about those. If I remember correctly mine has a lock and key, too. do kids still write in those in the 21st century?

what is a private diary and daily journal? I have been busy and haven't written in my journal in two or three weeks I never thought about how I needed a set pattern. I will have a sort of schedule after dinner, When does reading come in as I am trying to read more?

Mylot is kind of a journal I guess, but I don't generally write my feelings in it. I have always wanted to get into journaling, but am never in the mood at night. I think I need to pick a different time to do it. There are different types you can do you know like a feelings journal, gratititude journal or accountability journal.

@LovesEverybody It is one that helps you stay on track with whatever goals you have set for yourself..it can be anything you are working on. I think I will start that as I need to.

@snowy22315 that sounds like a great idea. I may start one too!

Yes, I just realized that mylot is like a journal. I wouldn't write some of the things I write in my journal on Mylot. I looked it up online and one can use and write their journal however they want. I took that to mean no particular time of day to write in it. I write when I get inspired. My peer told me some time ago to start a gratitude journal. I decided to add one thing I am grateful for to my regular everyday journal. What is an accountability journal? I never heard of that kind of journal.

it is not for everyone. it took me 50+ years before I started one. I don't always have the time to write in it, but I try for daily, then if not daily then every two or three days

I can understand not having one any longer. I started to get busy doing other things and I think it has been 2-3 weeks since I have written in my journal. I need to remedy that and start writing in it again

It took me a lot of years before I started a journal despite my doctors and the differences I have had over the years encouraging me to start one. I never knew what to write and suddenly I do not have enough time to write everything I want to write in it

This is a very interesting question. I have a journal, but I didn't write there for a very long time. I have another journal on my phone and I write there every day. I don't have friends and a journal helps me.

@LovesEverybody If I am very anxious I can't use computer or phones. I have a journal on paper too, but it's very old and anyone can read it.

that is great you have a journal. I have one as nobody likes me and I have no friends either. I keep my journal totally on paper as computers and phones make me give me anxiety and make me nervous
