Learning things from Reality TV.

In the past I always thought of television as being some sort of mindless entertainment used for relaxation. But these day I find I can watch programmes and learn something useful while being entertained. My latest interest has been learning about antiques collecting. For several years I have been watching show like The Antiques Roadshow and Bargain hunt in order to learn something on the subject. Do you feel that you are learning something useful while watching the television.

I always learn something. I used to watch Pawn Stars, Antiques Roadshow, Storage Wars and picked up tips on what's valuable. I watch the Game Show Network and pick my brain for trivia answers. I've learned a lot off the trivia shows. Have a good day.

@lazydaizee Yes, I've watched both pawn shop shows. Haven't seen the Detroit one in a while. I believe Pawn Stars is in Vegas.

I think I have seen Pawn Stars. Is this the show where a man runs a very large and busy pawn shop ?. He is in charge of the business and he has his sons working for him. The show is basically about the items that they buy and sell , but there is a certain amount of drama involved with the family dynamic and the personalities of many of the customers. It is often very funny to watch . There is also another similar show that takes place in a very large pawn shop somewhere near Vegas where an older man runs the shop with his son and daughter. The son and daughter are very competitive and try to outdo each other. The customers on this show are often loud and aggressive if they do not get what they want.

@LadyDuck You have been busy. Did you manage to repair the push lawn mower? We had one of those years ago but it broke and then my husband got an electric one. I do not like our electric one because I am nervous of the leads . I wish we had mended our push lawn mower instead of throwing it away.

@shaggin It is good that you are teaching your two year old to do other activities rather than just watching the TV.

I always go to You Tube if I need to know how to do something that I have not done before. We brought an old clock in an auction two years ago. The clock was not in working order when we brought it, but by watching a clock repairer online we learned what parts we needed to buy to be able to get our clock working again.

I do not watch as much television as I used to because they do not seem to make any interesting new programmes any more. Most of the shows I like are repeats, and I get fed up with watching shows when I know what is going to happen.

Hopefully they will but I think it can go either way depending on trends at the time. I have noticed a lot of prices have changed for items in the time that I have been watching these shows. Something that was worth a lot of money a few years ago would not be worth so much now. I can tell this from the items that the contestants buy on shows like Bargain Hunt.

Most reality TV isn't actually reality TV. Depending on what shows it most of it is scripted and others are not. They just cut the filming in a such way that they leave out certain things that change the content of the show.

@lazydaizee That sounds like a debate which for me would be boring to watch since I'm not participating like watching sports. If I wanted to watch people debate their thoughts and options I would wait for November they are plastered online for the government. I rather watch my trashy reality TV. Drama sometimes is real other parts are not so much because they are cut and put together sometimes. Those rich housewives certainly get into it sometimes. I do have fun watching or listening to book debates about characters and how things should have gone if we where the ones writing which sometimes does lead to other books being written.

I know they do this with some shows because they cut out the parts that may be boring to watch. There is a reality show called `The Only Way is Essex' that features real people . On this show they mostly show the people arguing because the viewers seem to like that sort of thing. The people in the show are really nasty to each other but it can be funny to watch because they all talk at the same time and nobody listens to the other person because they are all too busy shouting.

@ShyBear88 I do not watch the show about the rich housewives, but I expect it is interesting to see how these rich people live and what sort of problems they have to deal with. I read a lot of books and I often wonder what would happen to the characters in the stories if they had done thongs differently.

Online videos are good for learning how to do things. If I am ever faced with having to do something and I don`t know how to, I go on you tube. Most of the videos are well explained and show somebody doing whatever it is in real life.
