Top ten time! Just in time for the first full day of winter! Jimmy Buffett’s music can warm you up on a cold day. Thankfully, it’s not cold here right now. But Buffett sounds good anytime, anywhere. Here’s the first song on the top ten list.
#10: The Pascagoula Run
Heck, I’m just going on 15
But with the help of my finaglin’ uncle I get snuck in
For my first taste of sin
(Roger Miller, “Chug-a-Lug”)
That’s basically what we have here. Buffett’s “black sheep uncle” Billy shows up and takes the youth to the State Line Bar.
Now, technically, if Uncle Billy had a “red convertible ‘65,” that would’ve made Buffett 18 or 19. HOWEVER, here’s a little history lesson for you: Mississippi didn’t get the “repeal of the 18th Amendment” memo in 1933. Alcohol was still illegal in Mississippi after 1933…and all the way until 1966! So it’s possible that the eponymous trip is to a bar about 15 miles away in Alabama.
See what you get with a song with me?
That’s why people stay away from the subject of music with me: I’ll bore the daylights out of you!!
If you’re a fan of ballads, then rest assured that this is the only non-ballad in the top ten. A couple of midtempo songs, but this is the only upbeat, boogie tune.

Something new! Including the crazy fact that Mississippi didn’t repeal Prohibition with the rest of the country.

I can pronounce Pascagoula with no problem. Those cities in Massachusetts give me fits, though.

Don’t you have some eggnog to spike?
Glad you enjoy the facts about things that crop up in the song. There’s one coming up where I love the song but loathe the menu in the song’s lyrics!
