22 December - What I'm Thankful for Today

Okay, winter started yesterday. If my estimate is correct, we have six months of snow and winter ahead of us. Yes, I know Spring is in there somewhere, but winter always lingers. So, that's my prediction. Christmas is three days away and 2024 is 10 days away. What will the new year hold for you? It's another mild day in the 40s today. We won't get a white Christmas. We're getting rain. I could wish that the rain would be south of us, but it's statewide. We won't get left out. I can only hope it puts a dent in the drought totals we've been in since last winter when we got little snow. Okay, that's it for the weather talk. Now, onto what I'm thankful for today. I'm thankful for the six hours of sleep I got last night. I got a lot done before things went south for a couple of hours. I'm thankful I could ask someone to do the exercise tapes this morning because I suddenly couldn't be there. I wasn't feeling good for a couple of hours. I'm thankful I finally got to the store this week when things straightened out. I finally have my bananas and a few other things. Including three more boxes of tea. I must have upwards of 30 boxes. I don't have the flavors I bought this morning. I'm thankful I remembered to take care of Missy. She was good. Her daddy called and told me to use the hamburger in their fridge so it wouldn't go to waste. I'm trying to decide what to do with it. I'm thankful for the work I did on Wilderness Challenge. I need to figure out where the next chapter is. When I first wrote it, I had 12 chapters and no more. That's what it was for all my first books. I since learned how to divide chapters to keep the interest. So, I'm in the area of the book I never edited before. I still think I'll be done before the end of the year. It's less than a hundred pages. I'm thankful for the time I spent here. I have the notifications done twice. It's always good to see what your plans are for Christmas and if you'll be here or with family. I'll be with my son and his girlfriend on Christmas. I'm looking forward to it. Oh, I suppose you want to know who won the door prize. I won the Elves Disaster. I was the only winner in four buildings and the only one to do Elves Disaster. I guess the other Grinch one didn't go down as a disaster but as a fave. The other winner in the building was up on third floor and the one I voted for. It had Santa's nice list on it. Pictured above. My prize was a bottle of sparkling alcohol free apple cider. As I'm planning an open house for New Year's Day, I'll put it out on that day so everyone can enjoy some. Okay, that's my day. What are you thankful for today? Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me.

It's at least that long. Winter usually lingers into May before spring arrives for a couple of days and summer takes hold for the other six months. I wish I could see snow on the ground. Ah well. I can't have everything. Thank you. It was a fun competition.

Congratulations on winning, Valerie! Today I am thankful I got through a lot of stuff I am bringing my family for Christmas. Not just gifts, but my sister and brother-in-law said they could use some things I want to get rid of, and I’ll be thrilled to have the extra room in my apartment.

Winter has gone by the end of March here. We can see the snow in April, but it's only some flurries and it does not stick on the ground. 2024 is a leap year. There's a superstition in Italy that leap years bring bad luck.a proverb says "Anno bisesto, anno funesto" that translates into "leap year, unlucky year".

@just4him You had bad events in your countries during the leap years. North American blizzard of 1996 caused 187 deaths, Hurricane Ivan in the year 2004 (leap year) - Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting 2012 (leap year) - Orlando nightclub shooting 2016 (leap year). I am not sure it's so much a "legend" and only a superstition.

I never looked at leap year as bad luck. I hope it won't prove me wrong. I like to think every year is full of opportunities.
